Ok, so recently I have been bugging my mom to go and try on dresses...with 5mths to the wedding I don't know if I should wait anymore. In any case, my MOH's dress just came in (davids bridal) so I told my mom, 'Hey, since I'm picking up Melissa's dress why dont you come with me so you can try on dresses'...she respones..'Im tired, cant we do this in March' grrrr..keep in mind we both have the week off because we both work with the Board of Ed..in any case..I know my mom and she says March and then when March comes it will be April...shell just keep procastinating..am I wrong? Also...what will be cutting it close..like, do we still have time for her? TIA

Re: Grrr....will I have time?
I think it depends on where you're getting it... My mom Just found her dress and my wedding is in less than 3 months. Oh, and FMIL got her dress Months ago and it's being made. I guess it depends on the person... my mom's a lot more laid back then FMIL. Don't worry... you're mother will find the Perfect dress for your wedding.

Re: Grrr....will I have time?
I feel for you...I have 2 months longer- but my mom keeps saying 'I need to lose weight first' Which is why I waited so long to order my own dress- I wanted to lose weight, it never happened.
I figure its her own problem if she has to buy off the rack. I know she will look fine and won't listen to my opinion anyway.
I would just let her do what she needs to do...she'll go because she won't want to look bad at the wedding.

I can see how you would be getting frustrated........
My mom's dress came in 8 weeks. So you can call around if you need to (if she takes longer) and see the timeline for certain designers. Also, she could get her dress from a Department store like Dillards or Nordstroms.....the both have beautiful gowns!
Good luck though!

My mom ordered her dress in October, it's still not in but it does depend on where you are getting it. FMIL just got hers on Monday off the rack in Lord and Taylor!

I agree about the Lord and Taylor thing... my mom is going to bloomies and nordstroms to see what they have, and if you do it that way there's no wait Don't worry b/c my mom JUST started looking, and my FMIL was waiting to lose weight too, so we have 5 months and I'm not sweating it

Re: Grrr....will I have time?
My mom's dress has been in for about a month, whereas FMIL is insisting she wants to lose 25-30 lbs before she even starts to shop.... I told her she should at least start looking that way she can find dresses she likes and maybe order them at a later date.
Still really worried that she is waiting too long (she refuses to shop before April).

I'd tell her to stop procrastinating. Because when she does go look suppose she doesn't find something she likes? Then your back to square one . Just go to her house, and say....come on mom, we're going dress shopping.

I still live with my parents...you would think it would be easy to pull her along..but its not ..shes such a pain sometimes...I mean, I know that if worst comes to worst she can go to Macys and find something nice..but I know how picky she is..and I just dont want it to get to that point..GRR mothers.

Re: Grrr....will I have time?
FMIL waited until about 2 weeks ago to order her dress (in all fairness she was looking but couldn't find anything). But bc it's considered a rush order now (needed in less than 3 months) she had to pay a rush order fee. Maybe the idea of having to put out more money needlessly will motivate her

Re: Grrr....will I have time?
My mom just found her dress this weekend with less than a month to go.
Lord and Taylor in the city has a huge selection of dresses. We went everywhere, bridal shops, saks, nordstroms, neiman marcus, I was starting to lose sleep over it. She's been on Weight Watchers and lost a lot of weight. As a last resort we stopped at Lord and Taylor and found the perfect dress. She wanted something show stopping and she totally found it!

Re: Grrr....will I have time?
My mom got hers off the rack at Macy's and my FMIL ordered hers in January...it's supposed to be in in March.
ETA: maybe you could find a picture of the ugliest dress possible, and tell her that if she doesn't get a dress, that's what she's wearing.

Re: Grrr....will I have time?
I'm getting married in July too - my mom is looking now, but I'm not taking my FMIL until mid-late April. There may be more selection for the summer in the springtime anyway... I'm not even sure you can get a summer dress now and I'm sure there would be no sales if you could. Take her to Walt Whitman mall, between Macy's, Lord and Taylor, Sax, etc and all the stores in Huntington, I'm sure she can find something.
