FH had some major bills - school, totalled car, then new car payments (WAAAAY too much $$$ for the car- I'd NEVER pay as much as he does!!!), and didn't have money for a ring.

After a few long discussions (we had been together 4.5 yrs at that point), I FINALLY got him to realize that all I wanted was to KNOW that he wanted to marry me, I didn't NEED a ring.

For our 1 yr dating anniversary, he bought me a very small 3 stone ring. On Thanksgiving '04, he moved that ring to my left hand and asked me to marry him. Of COURSE I accepted.

He was hired (he's an elem. school teacher), and now has his life in order. He kidnapped me today (I cut 3 classes- OMG.) and took me to my family jeweler- all the way to downtown NYC from Suffolk. It took us 2.5 HOURS to get there, 'cause there was a fatal motorcycle accident closing alllll westbound lanes of the LIE.

Apparently, he's been working with the jeweler for weeks to design exactly what I've mentioned I wanted, because we've looked EVERYWHERE and absolutely couldn't find it.

I LOVE my ring, and he was sooooo good at getting everything together - the ring is SO beautiful in person... it actually appraised for $100 less than DOUBLE what he paid.

I am SO proud of him.

I'm not wearing the ring yet- FH is asking my ENTIRE family () and I have to get it insured.
