Derek! He's been calling him by his first name for the last day or so!!! I guess he hears me say it. LOL
He's cracking me up this kid. He also mimics me when I call my mother. I thought I said 'Mom' but apparently I say 'MA!' You never know what you sound like till your kid imitates you.

It's very common for first and only children to pick up calling their parents by their first names because that's what they hear most.
My cousin's son called his father 'Hun (as in 'honey') because that's what his mom called him!

SO TRUE! I know a family where a little girl calls her Grandmother 'hun' b/c her Grandfather always refers to his wife that way.
Liz - isn't it just great having a parrot in the house?

Re: Guess what Luke calls his Dad?
My sister told me a great one the other day. Her 7 year old son had gotten punished by his dad and sent to his room. My sister walked by his room and overheard him talking out loud to himself while he was sulking....
'That damn JEFF!'
She said she knew she had to reprimand him for the bad language, but she needed a minute to enjoy how funny it was first!!!

Re: Guess what Luke calls his Dad?
It really is TOOO cute when kids do this...
We've been on a first-name basis here too
Every time John calls me from across the house, he has his little buddy calling me too. So I hear 'ANNA !!!!!' and then 'annaaaa annaaaaa' and then he tries to repeat whatever it is John has to say to me....
I think kids like to play with different 'roles' in the family. My nieces ALL THE TIME will call their mom Lucy, or 'Zia Lucy' ('Aunt' which is how she is called by all the cousns) or they will play around and say she is their sister
A few times my niece has called me 'sweetie' or 'sweetie pie' because thats what I always say to them when Im talking.... TOOO CUTEE!!

Patrick is the same way. But..he says it the same way I do when John is embarrasing me. I'm waiting for him to tsk first & then say JOHN!!!!
John is trying to get Patrick to call me Tracy but he'll do it once or twice. Not as much as he calls his daddy John.

I think that's too cute! They take on such a personality at a small age! My 3 year old nephew was doing that this weekend, telling everyone his name is Jimmy and daddy's name was Jimmy too!

Re: Guess what Luke calls his Dad?
That is so cute. My dad amd his brothers and sisters called my grandmother Dearest their entire lives because that is the only thing my grandfather ever called her. He tells stories about walking into my grandparents house when he was a kid and yelling 'Dearest, I'm home' and then having to explain to his friends who were with him who Dearest was.
