guest +1???

i was wondering what the invite etiquette was for singles who are not currently dating anyone.

is it impolite to invite someone to the wedding without inviting them with a guest??

if you can't tell, my invite list is getting too long...cuts need to be made :(

It is perfectly acceptable to invite a person wihtout a guest as long as they arent in any serious relationships.

Most people say it's fine to invite single people without a guest. However, I do not agree and I think you must invite with guest. I already know it's not easy but if you want someone at your wedding, you should allow them to decide whether they'd like someone to accompany them. JMO

I am not inviting anyone that doesn't have a significant other with a guest, don't have the room.

I am inviting everyone with a guest because I just think it is nice to have people bring someone. I also think that it is hard to draw the line with what significant means--some people can bring them but others can't--it should be either everyone can or everyone can't. My FI was invited to two weddings without me and I thought it was so rude--we had been going out for 2 years. Of course if you have a budget and this is where you want to cut that is good it just might get hairy.
Good luck

I know you're probably looking for a simple answer but this is a topic of much debate.

The best advice is to do what is right for you - you will truthfully get split opinions on this board about this, sort of like the dj v. band debate. They get ugly sometimes

Me too EXCEPT if they know no one else who will be there - there are a couple of people who will be in that situation.

I think it is okay, it definitly depends on who it is though. A close friend (that knows other people) or a cousin are fine without guests. IMO

I only invited +1s if they were in a serious relationship that I knew of, or if they would know absolutely no one else at the wedding. This didn't work out to be that many people, since some chose not to bring anyone and we didn't have that many single people to begin with.

Ettiquette states that you invite a guest with a date if:

1-they live with someone
2- are engaged to someone
3- have been dating someoen for at least a year

I simply cannot afford to invite all of my single friends with a date. Id rather have the band I want, the flowers I want, the reception I want and the dress I want than to have someone there just to keep someone company. JMO

I agree that the etiquette says you don't have to, but I'm going to try to invite everyone with guest. For me, most of my friends are single, but the ones who aren't, i don't even know, really because I don't keep THAT close tabs on them. ALso, when i go to a wedding, I like to have someone to dance with. I'd feel really awkward on my own. I'd feel much more inclined to go if I could bring a guest, and if I weren't dating someone and I didn't know a lot of people there already, I'd probably invite4 one of my guy friends..

IMO, I think all adults should be invited with a guest regardless of what their situation is. Especially an evening wedding. I think it is inappropiate to expect a single not to want to take a date. How are they suppose to dance?

I agree. I've been to plenty of weddings where I wasn't aloud to bring a guest and I didn't feel slighted as long as I knew at least one other person at the wedding

i think that inviting adults (even if they are single) without dates is totally wrong.

Re: guest +1???

I've been invited to many weddings without a guest as single person and I wasn't put out in the slightest. In every situation I was with people I knew and had a great time. One time I was invited with a guest and actually declined it since I would just be inviting someone to invite them. I don't think they need to have a guest.
On that note since we are inviting such a small group of single people and since they have to travel from out of town, they are invited with a guest. I would hope that those that knew other people would decline the guest and just come alone. Will see...
