Is it proper etiquette to put 'and Escort' for a female single friend on an invite? According to Peggy Post's book, there is no mention of escort, but I remember reading it somewhere online. any thoughts?

Re: guest and 'escort'?
I'm guessing that you're talking about a situation where the female guest doesn't have a steady boyfriend but you want her to feel free to invite a guest? I also haven't seen that in any etiquette books. The only thing I've seen is that you should not put 'and Guest' if they DO have a significant other--you should find out that person's name. But I think that if you just want to invite them with a date, 'and Escort' should be okay. Hope this helps!

Re: guest and 'escort'?
I prefer to put 'and guest.' I think that 'and escort' sounds a little bit sexist. JMO

Re: guest and 'escort'?
We did 'and escort' for the single women, and 'and guest' for the single men. Not sure if that was 'correct' ettiquette, but who cares really. You do what you want to do, regardless of what others think.

Unless she hires one, which is what the movie 'The Wedding Date' is about!

Lauretta-- when I hear 'and escort' I think escort service as well... (which then I think hookers and my dirty mind wanders..)
so I'd say stick to 'and guest.' That is perfectly acceptable.

Re: guest and 'escort'?
I've never seen and escort on an invitation. I don't like how it sounds and IMO wouldn't use it.
ETA: I just read what cherylbooch wrote and I agree - I was thinking of that too!

The State Farm free wedding planner mentions the use of 'escort' but that is the only place I've seen it.

i agree. I think it's a bit sexist too, although some people would just call it old-fashioned.

Re: guest and 'escort'?
Single females regardless of boyfriend status or not are usually invited with an 'Escort' unless your are friendly with the boyfriend or its long term relationship.
Same is true for single males and 'Guest'

I would definitely put Guest, I dont think Escort would be a good idea.
