Did anyone else run into a problem with their guests complaining about the price of the hotel you blocked? 95% of my guests are coming from out of town, so we booked a block of rooms at the Marriott Melville and are providing shuttles for them to the church and reception and back since they are all the way in Northport (which wasn''t cheap for us, but we wanted it to be convenient for the guests!) The only closer places seemed like hourly rate type places if you know what I mean. Plus if we suggested another place, it would have botched up the transportation plans. Now we hear a bunch of the guests are complaining, we even heard through the grapevine that one of them said 'I''ll go to the wedding, but they can forget a gift if I have to pay for that hotel!' The nerve of these people, it''s not my fault that NY is more expensive in general. I wish they only knew how much their plates are costing us! Not to mention, that hotel was just our suggestion, they are more than welcome to get on the internet and find themselves a cheaper motel! Sorry for venting, I just had to get this off my chest!

Mine all complained too. Many of them decided to stay elsewhere at a cheaper rate.

We are in the same boat! Just relax, take a deep breath and concentrate on the day and what it means. It is about you and your husband-to-be. You have done everything to make your guests feel comfortable, now they need to take the responsibility. You can`t worry about everything, eventhough it is definetely hard not to...everybody will have their opinions on what they want/like/dislike...please don`t use up your energy worrying about everything---it really is not worth it!
Hang in there and Good luck!

SC, Most of my family, as well as FI's are coming from out of town...we plan to provide them with info about a couple of hotels (with varying $$ range). I know I will be in the same situation as you next year LOL.
Someone will always complain about something!!! I think that you have been more than generous by providing your guests with transportation from a hotel!!!!
I know that this is hard to do, but try to let the grumbles roll off of you. As long as you and FH are happy, your day will be a complete success.
Hang in there!

I would be so angry I would tell them to kiss my @ss, to put it plainly. You work so hard and then people have some nerve! It is your day so try to keep cool and ignore the comments. People will be unhappy with SOMETHING, no matter how hard you try. It seems to me that you were very considerate and tried to make everything convenient and nice for them! Your true friends and family will respect you for all the efforts you put forward.

Guest Complaints AGGGHHH!!!!
I had the same thing, buy it was my FMIL who lives on LI that called complaining. She said she couldn't believe that the hotel was 149 a night. I said well it is. What did she want me to do about it? I can't reduce the rates any. Most of her family is from out of town and live in areas where a good hotel room is 99 on an expensive weekend, but they stay as Super 8 they said for 49 a night. I don't think you could get any place for 49 a night down here.
So I feel your pain!

Re: Guest Complaints AGGGHHH!!!!
My OOT guests/extended family complained and moaned about hotels to death... about the quality of the hotels not about the price. I'd reserved 5 hotels all in different areas (3 in Queens near our Queens reception, 1 in Wingate Inn on LI and the other in Manhattan within walking distance from our ceremony) ith a total about 75 rooms and all with different rates. They liked none! They ended up staying at a higher priced hotel in a higher class location--Waldorf-Astoria which is fine with me as money changes everything.
In the end... money doesn't mean anything to me as they weren't dressed in their best since they've got money. I was still the most beautifulest of all on our special day--regardless of money or not.

Everyone in my wedding will get a hotel room at the Rye Town Hilton for $119. If they don't like it, tough.... My family can be cheapskates anyway!

My friend had the same problem so she simply told them to go to one of the budget hotel websites and find their own if they didn't like her choice

yeah don't worry about it. people just always complain and are rude. no one said they have to come and no one said they have to stay there.
anyway this is why i'm not blocking rooms. i'll send people a list of nearby hotels and they can make all their own arrangements including transportation to and from. the way i see they are all capable adults that can figure out how to travel. i mean they've been on vacation right?!!
by the way, where in northport is your wedding? i'm originally from there :)
