A co-worker just told me that she got invited to another party the night of the wedding. So she's going to 'hit my party up first for an hour or two' and then head to the other party. Hmm. I feel bad because the table will have 2 empty seats after they leave early & they probably wont have time to eat dinner, right? I guess there is nothing I can really do...Anyone come across this?

Re: Guest Leaving the Reception Early
Does that 2 hours include the cocktail hour too?
My grandparents will probably leave early b/c it's too long of a day for them. I am sad about it but will be happy they are there for even a short time.

for various reasons, yes. we had several guests who had multiple affiars and insteadof skipping our wedding completely, they came for a bit and then left. it was no big deal...and i'm sure we paid for food taht wasn't eaten, but it didn't matter!

I had 2 guests leave early. You couldn't even tell there were 2 empty seats because every one was dancing the entire night. Don't worry, no one will notice!

Re: Guest Leaving the Reception Early
I had guests leaving 2 hours into my reception (basically ate and left) b/c they needed to travel home to MA/upstate NY - I said good-bye to them, but I still partied my arse off the remainder of the time and had a blast!

Re: Guest Leaving the Reception Early
I went to a wedding once and a couple said to me that they were leaving because the wedding 'was boring' then they asked if i could please give the bride/groom their gift and if i could please take their favor..... yea okay no problem! Anyway i would not have even noticed that they were gone

She has a geniue reason for leaving early. Don't worry about the extra seats, just enjoy your day.

we had the opposite - DH's boss came to our wedding from another event. so he got there really late. it was not a big deal at all IMO.

Re: Guest Leaving the Reception Early
It sounds like they will have time to eat dinner. That's usually the first thing the RH will do - serve dinner. But like the others said, they will eat and run. I wouldn't worry about the empty seats. There will be plenty all night, with people mingling and dancing.

I'm sorry , I think thats is so Rude! Trying to squease in 2 party's in one day. I mean a Wedding is just not something you skip out on...Weddings are expensive.
ok...since she is rude....how about asking her just to come to the cocktail hour? and leave before the Receptions starts. That way you do not pay for a dinner that is not going to be eaten.

dont u think it is the other way around- meaning, the person is not really being rude, but trying to at least attend the wedding for a little while because she or he cares for the bride and groom so much that even though they have to miss part of the wedding, they still want to show their face??

Re: Guest Leaving the Reception Early
I am having a sunday night wedding so I've already prepared myself for those who will have to leave early. (Most people have to work on Mondays) I'm not thrilled about it but I know the most important people, those I am close to, will be dancing on that ballroom floor with me and my new hubby all night long!

Re: Guest Leaving the Reception Early
I think it's rude. Any wedding guest knows that after 2 hours, you are barely into the wedding.
I had this happen with 2 couples at my wedding. The best thing I did was to refuse to spend much time saying goodbye to those people. My memory of my wedding was not going to be about a series of 'goodbyes.'
