So my guest list has steadily grown to 360 people. I can't figure out ways to cut people because I would have to cut this person if I cut that one or I can't invite this person without inviting that one... It is so complicated. And I am nervous. I can't afford a wedding for that many people. FMIL and my mother went through their lists and told me who they are like 95% sure won't come, but that brings me down to 276 which is JUST at budget. I am afraid this won't happen and I will be way over with the people who come. I know its supposed to only be like 15-20% that say no (We predict more bc some are overseas). Anyway, I am really overwhelmed bc their is no way to be sure of things until the invitations come back... And that is like 9 months away. No answer I'm sure, just wanted to vent.

That is such a tough situation. I am sorry. Don't we all wish that there was a money tree in our backyards...

Re: Guest List Freak Out
This is where fhs entire family got stuck with over 300 on their lists :(
We decided we would get a room that doesnt hold more than 150 to force ourselves from not going over...we told fmil that we could only have 90...
Maybe that will help? Lie to them about the list? Not lie but just tell everyone you have 200 and only can invite immediate?

Re: Guest List Freak Out
Well FMIL is paying for most of the wedding 5/6 of it. My parents are paying the other 1/6 so its hard to tell them to scale back you know? FH took a 4 month job transfer since he'll get paid extra money so that can hopefully help if we go over (but it stinks cause he is in texas!). Anyway, the bulk of the people (175) are from FMIL. She anticipates 60 saying no. My mother's list is 89 with 20 probably not coming. And the guest list from me and FH is between 84 and 96 depending on whether or not I include work friends. I know that is really where I can do some cutting but its so awkward because I see them everyday and they always invite me out after work and stuff. Also, I'm a teacher so its hard to invite some work people in your dept without inviting everyone and then to invite friends out of the dept (better friends)... Its so complicated because everyone is connected so many ways.

I was at this point too. Listen, there are people you can cut, I am sure. Just look at the list carefully and know that many people will understand.
The big problem is dealing with the ILs and the people that are paying. I had FH cut 18 people from his list. It hurt, but he did it. I cut 10.
FMIL- said NO, she didn't have any to cut and my mom said no also!!!
We are still over but look at your friends, etc, coworkers, we found a couple of whole groups we were able to cut and it makes a HUGE difference in the bottom line.

Re: Guest List Freak Out
You may have to bring the lists back to the moms and tell them that they have to cut some people each unless they're willing to come up with the extra money. You should make a rule that if you haven't seen the person in a certain number of years or have never met them, they're automatically off the list. I know moms have to play politics with their friends and families but at a certain point, it has to be stopped.

Re: Guest List Freak Out
My matron of honor's husband gave great advice about this: Don't invite anyone, you wouldn't invite to dinner at your house. This has helped me rope in my fiance's guest list at times.
