Guest List Got Bigger over night......

I had been waiting patiently for my FMIL to give me a list of guests. Now FH does NOT have a lot of family, and the family he does have are in Trinidad... Now the guest list jumped from 114 to 147! I don't want to to really take any away, b/c he doesn't have many people from his side, BUT a majority of the people his mother gave me are HER friends... People that know my FH when he was like 10 yrs old, and he hasn't seen them in 20 yrs!!!!!. It's like an additional $3000 for people FH doesn't even remember!!!!

And he even said that we only wanted people we are close with. And a majority of our list is friends, but we are ok with that... My problem is, is that FH wants to tell his mom NO to some of HER friends, but we both think she 'announced' the wedding to them already....

I don't know what to do.... It's also alot of extra money that we don't have....

Have your FH talk to his mother, maybe he can help her realize that these people aren't necessary to invite since he hasn't seen them in so long. But I wouldn't worry, more than likely they'll say no, she prob just wants to be polite and extend them the invitation.

I would tell his mother that you guys do not have the money for these additional people. Explain to her that you only wanted people you guys are close with, and that you don't know these people. If she still insist they come, then tell her that you need for her to contribute money. Don't go broke over people you don't know.

Also, don't worry if she already announced your wedding. You do not know these people, and they should not be mad if they are not invited. Alot of people know about our wedding, but that does not mean they are invitied. My own cousin is getting married this April. My parents where invited and me and my sister weren't. They have not seen us in years, so I understood there reasoning.

We're HOPEFULLY going to see FMIL today ... FH wants to cut people, so I'm hoping this goes well... I'll updaye everyone later...

I was in the EXACT situation babe. We found Fox Hollow and a hall specifically based on the fact that we would only want 120 people. 60 from my side, and 60 from his....

As soon as the time came around for the STD's and with the guestlist...all of a sudden his mother found 90 people in total!

We told our parents that we honestly wanted to have 120 people, but since they went overboard, they decided that if they invited more, then they would pay for their guests.

Obviously that might not be an option for you guys, but you'll have to cut the guestlist down. No other way to go about it.
