Is it rude to invite a single person and Not put '& Guest' if they're not in a relationship????
We have alot of single friends w/boyfriends/girlfriends for everyday of the week. And some not seeing anyone....
I don't want to be rude, but we're trying to keep the numbers down...
What should we do?????

We had the exact same problem and laid down the law. Our venue is limited for number of guests--250 max, so we couldn't have all our single friends bring dates, we just used a blanket rule, if you are engaged, living together or have a long term SO, then we addressed the invitations specifically to the significant other... otherwise, the invite just went to our single guests... too bad they can just hook up with people from the wedding

If I were single, and over the age of 21 - I think I would be upset if I were invited to a wedding with out the 'and guest'.

We only invited our guests with guests if either 1) they are in a serious relationship (engaged or married)
2) dating someone for over 2 years
With us paying ourselves, we didn't feel a wedding was a place for someone not in a relationship to just bring anyone!!!!

We invited all of our single friends with guests. We have a lot of single cousins (our age) and were planning on inviting them with guests, but ultimately invited them without guests because our list was so huge. Our cousins will know plenty of people at the wedding and do not need to bring a random. We told them all through word of mouth that they could of course bring someone if they were dating anyone....and we're hoping they're not!

i agree with you 100%, why am i going to pay for someone's random date who has no connection to me and FH and probably little connection to our single guest rather than paying for more friends and family?

Its a really tough call. If you need to keep the numbers down, then you have to do what you have to do... In respose to only inviting those living together, engaged or in long term relationships.... I was a BM in my friends wedding two years ago. I had been going out with a guy for a little over a month.... now I am marrying him... so its really hard to determine who's SO is important, and who's is not, IMO.

It is not rude. If that person has been with their guest in a serious relationship for over 1 year than it is ok to invite them if you have the money for it. Less than 1 year and/or if they are not serious is not rude at all.

I'm sorry, but I agree. I am inviting everyone over 21 with a guest. I got invited to a wedding alone and I did not go. I guess it is a personal decision.

My FI has been invited to way too many weddings - as a grown man - without a guest and it always offended him - so we invited anyone single with a guest. It ended up that anyone without a gf or bf is comng alone anyway - but it is still a nice gesture.

That is our cutoff. So sad for those 18-20 year olds I think older folks and OOT guests should definitely be given a guest. The rest are a toss up.

I understand both sides.... Both still undecided.... One point is.. Our single friends are all friends, so it wouldn't be as if they didn't know anyone.... I hate this part of planning...

If they are all already friends, it may be worth it to discuss it with them prior to sending the invites and get their thoughts. Maybe they'd all love to go stag together and have a blast. I would discuss it with them first and see what they say.

That's a good idea. I personally only got offended at one instance where I was invited without guest and wasn't going to know anyone there. A lot of people I know though, even if they don't have a specific guest to bring, get upset if they are not invited with guest (even if they wouldn't bring one anyway).

It's not rude...if you can't afford it, you just can't do it. I know a lot of people who have done that and no one was offended.

I had a large group of single friends from HS and DH had a large group of single friends from college. None of them were invited with guests. They knew a bunch of people and had a great time. Anyone who had a SO was invited with them. If your guests don't know anyone else, then I'd invite them with a guest. Otherwise, I don't think it's necessary to invite everyone with guests. Weddings are expensive. I'd rather be able to invite more friends and family than invite a bunch of strangers.
