I'm trying to gather the guests lists from both families and when I got them both, it looks like FH's family is inviting twice as many as my family. My family is paying for the hall and the little things, while his family is paying for the flowers, band and photographer. I feel like they don't need to invite so many people... Is it rude to ask if they can look over their list?
I guess it doesn't hurt to invite them all, but what if they all say that they are coming, that means more money for my parents to spend, both on invites (which hopefully won't be too much) as well as per person at the hall....
What do you think...

Re: Guest List question...
I think that the total numbr of the guest list should be divided into three for you & FH, your parents and FIL's.

Could your FH to talk to them about it? I dont think its rude at all, but it would probably come better from him. Just have him mention how much it looks like its going to cost your parents (with the amount of people they are inviting) Also maybe he could suggest breaking the list up to MUST INVITES and WOULD LIKE TO INVITE.

Re: Guest List question...
We had asked FMIL to give us a rough estimate on who she wanted to invite. FI gave her the max # of people she can invite so that pretty much settled any issues as to having too many people.
If you are trying to save some $$ then IMO i would put a cap to the # of people FH's family is inviting.

Re: Guest List question...
I think it needs to be as equal as possible. With your parents paying for the hall they are bound to notice if their family is outnumbered by your future in laws. My family will be outnumbered but that is because most of them don't live in the US. Is there a legitimate reason for his guest list having more poeople than yours? or is he just inviting more people?

Re: Guest List question...
why don't you try to think of the size of the wedding you want to have....150, 200, 250 etc. this is a tactful way that my FH and myself got his parents to cut a few people. We wanted 150 guests and were up around 210. it worked. She cut a few and my parents decided to keep everyone but they are paying for the reception. My FILs are only paying for 1/6th of the wedding.
