Guest list woes

My dad just got mad at me becase he found out that FILs had added a bunch of people to their list. He's mad because we wound up inviting about 230 people to the wedding- our minimum is 175, my parents had said they would pay up to 200. MIL said that anything over 200 they would pay for, but my parents are pissed that she said this to me and FH and didn't call my parents who are the ones hosting, and paying for most of the wedding. Now my dad is saying that he will only pay for people on her original list and if some of them say no that's too bad. He wants FH parents to pay for any yesses from the new list. I hate drama! Our parents get along really well and now I'm worried this is going to ruin their relationship.

Oh sweetie - I'm sorry to hear about that. I have similar problems, but mainly because we wouldn't let my FILs add people to their list. We invited about 210 and will be lucky to make our minimum of 150 now, though. So it's QUITE possible that you'll get a lot of nos.

At 230 you probably end up right around 200 (actually 195 - 15%) - I wouldn't let it get you stressed.

My dad said he doesn't care what the final numbers are, he's not paying for anyone on the 'add-on' list. He's just being difficult. Hopefully when he calms down he'll go back to paying for up to 200- regardels of which list they're on.
