How do you decide who gets invited with a guest and who doesn't? I figured only if someone is engaged or living together. However, I have some friends who are single and I know they get insulted when they are invited other places and not with a guest. Maybe I sounds mean or insensitive, but I just don't feel like paying for someone to bring Joe Shmo to my wedding because they don't feel like being alone. Is that mean? How is everyone else handling this?
Thanks!

Re: Guest Question
Everyone in a relationship (not the flavor of the week), married or engaged. We did invite 1 person with a guest because they really didn't know anyone else at the wedding.

Re: Guest Question
ughhh this is so hard, I know my friend seriously regreted doing this for her wedding bc she invited a bunch of people with a guest and their guests backed out for whatever reason. she said she paid for like 10 no show 'guests'.
I would only invite someone I think that is in a relationship with someone. If they are single def. no guest invite.

we invited every single person with a guest, but only a handful of them did so (the rest just came solo). as someone who hated getting invites to weddings without having the option to bring a guest, i felt strongly that was something i didn't want to do to others. we just decided to cut costs elsewhere so that we could allow for everyone to bring a date (if they wanted).

Re: Guest Question
The only people we invited with guests were people that didnt know anyone else (about 5 out of 115 people) and we are going to kindly ask that they do not mention the exception to anyone.
Everyone with a spouse was on our list and not a 'and guest' kinda deal lol
I feel like we know everyone at our wedding so its no big deal to ask that 5 or 6 people to keep it under wraps...especially because the only reason I let them bring a guest is because they know no one lol.

Re: Guest Question
I'm mostly doing the same as the other posters. FH and I are a bit older so he has some single friends that we are inviting +1. Also, a lot of those friends are OOT so we wouldn't feel right asking them to travel for our wedding and then inviting them w/o a guest.
That being said, I have local, younger people that are invited with their families and a lot of them are not invited with a guest.
So I guess you should think about age, whether they have to travel, know other guests at your wedding, and of course, the ever important budget. You have to do what financially makes sense for you guys.
Edited for grammar.

Re: Guest Question
We invited everyone with a guest, however we knew most of them who did not have a girlfriend/boyfriend would not bring one.

Re: Guest Question
We invited everyone in a serious relationship, married or living together. We were close with everyone coming so we knew the extent of the seriousness (years dating). We invited 300 people and just didn't have the room or money to invite EVERYONE with a guest. It p*ssed off people but I just explained to them, if we invited everyone with a guest it would be over 350 people invited! Also, explained to them, it's just just the person per plate, it's also favors, CPs, VH hour, space on the dance floor, space in the room, and many other factors and it just couldn't be done, you're talking probably an extra $10,000. Then I would end 'would you really want to babysit someone at your close family member/friends wedding? I HATED doing that!'

Re: Guest Question
We are allowing all of our bridal party to bring a guest weather or not they are in a relationship. Otherwise only if they have been dating for a while(and we have met them) or engaged are they getting a guest.
Otherwise we will be over our max number that we can have at the RH.

Re: Guest Question
Everyone that was married or in a serious relationship got invited with their significant other. FH's cousins who he is not close to did not get invited with a guest because they know people there. Three of my friends were invited with guests because they don't know anyone else. However, they met at our engagement party and actually hit it off. I also don't think anyone them will actually bring anyone.

Re: Guest Question
we basically did it as a case by case basis. however most of the people that got a plus one are engaged/living with/long term sig other. it turns out there were only a handful of people that are single and wouldnt know anyone else at the wedding (no family or friends there) so we just gave them a plus one too. we have a guest list on the smaller side so it was easier for us to be generous with the plus ones

Re: Guest Question
We invited everyone with a guest...we had that in mind when we decided on our budget and chose a venue
only problem with that is we don't know if the single people are bringing someone or not so our numbers could suffer, but hey, what can you do... we felt it was the right thing to do.

Re: Guest Question
FH and I made a rule that they must be in a relationship for at least 6 months to bring them as a guest. I know it might be mean, but I really dont want anyone bringing some random fling to my wedding.

Re: Guest Question
everyone is being invited with a guest except for my second cousins. (the ones invited will be between 16 and 20 years old...they won't need dates for a family wedding)
FH was invited w/o a date to a wedding when we were dating for 6 months...he was so annoyed that he refused to go to the wedding. 5 years later, he still wishes i could have been his date and then he would have gone. it caused drama- not worth it. we want everyone to have the choice of date

Re: Guest Question
We did not write....and guest....on anyone's invitation. Everyone we knew had a SO or that were married or engaged got their names on the invitation. Everyone seems to understand so far except for a few of FH's father's cousins who are giving us a hard time. It's just not in the cards to invite everyone with a guest when your guest list is already at 250 and you would have liked it to be at around 210-215. I just can't believe how rude people are. We actually got an email about it and we said nicely that due to our budget, the capacity of our RH and our already too large guest list that we had to limit the number of people. His 2nd cousin actually wrote back saying 'well I guess if the grooms own sister can go without her BF so can I' Hey lady, no one ever said that we are not having people without guests, just not anyone we didn't know. lol
