I know I haven’t been on much in the past months, but life has been crazy busy. I feel like there is always something going on and not enough time in a day. I need some advice from you ladies. Any feedback would be great!
Originally I wanted to invited everyone to my wedding with a guest which would have been perfect! But then my dad decided he wants to invite about 40 people from his side if the family(my parents hv been divorced since I was in 3rd grade so I don’t even know half of them). FH and I are paying for most of the wedding ourselves, my father has given us a little money(not that much) which I think is why I am having a hard time telling him to cut back on his guest.
FH and I booked the smaller room as we didn’t think we’d be able to fill it, since my father wants to invite all other people, I am now afraid we are not going to be able to fit in the room.
So my question is, Is it wrong to invite some of my friends that are not dating anyone, without a guest? All of my friends know each other and will be at the same tables, so I know they will all get along. I am just worried as I don’t want to step on anybodies toes by not inviting them with a guest.
Thanks for your help!!!

Re: Guest Question (sorry it's a lil long)
I would say first of all to maybe ask your dad to possibly cut his guest list unless he can help the two of you out a bit more financially with the wedding. A 40 extra people does add up particularly when you may not know who they are.
If not then unless you know that the individual has a serious relationship I wouldn't invite them with a guest.

I don't think it's wrong to not let your guests bring a date.
The only people that I am inviting with a guest are those whose signficant others I know personally, and am friends with. For example, my friends boyfriend of 2 years. But those who are now single or casually dating someone I do not know, will not be invited with a guest.
I don't thik it will be a problem, especially if your friends know each other. That is the same situation with me...we are all friends.
I even had someone tell me that they would rather not bring a date because then they feel like they have to babysit and make sure that person is having a good time, since they do not know everyone.
I'm sure people will understand that weddings are expensive, and to keep costs down, you are not adding a plus 1.
Good luck!

I would ask your dad to cut back on his guest list because you did book the smaller room and you only have a certain number of 'spots' available for everyone you want to invite.

Nope. My friends are not getting plus ones. In fact I am having a similar dilema w. people I plan on inviting from work. I decided that I will have ask them to come solo. No spouses. Tacky? Perhaps. But I told them that I understand if they cant come, b.c. I dont have room for their spouses. its not like they will be w. people that they dont know. If anything I think they will have a better time. They were all fine w. it.

Becuase of money and space constraints, no one is being invited with a guest unless they are engaged, married, or in a long term relationship such that they might as well be engaged by now anyway! Most of our guests know each other anyway. For guests that probably won't know too many other people there, I have already started to speak to them about the situation and they so far all are very understanding!

No prob to invite the truly single without a guest. Those in monogamous relationships (dating, living together, engaged, married) should be invited with their partners.

Re: Guest Question (sorry it's a lil long)
well first, i'd talk to your dad about what he can do...
second - u do what u have to do. DH & i were paying for our wedding ourselves, and our guest list was HUGE due to our large families. It was absolutely impossible financial wise, and room capacity wise, to invite everyone with a guest. If our friends were dating someone of course they were invited, and a couple friends that were invited that i knew didn't know ANYBODY were invited with a guest as well. But as for everyone else, even family members, if they werent with anyone at the time then they were not invited with a guest. i never heard a word about it...and honestly, anyone who has issues with the way u do anything will be over it as soon as the wedding is over. like i said - u do what u need to do..ur guests will understand when they plan their own wedding some day!

First of all I too was having this problem. I told my mom and FH grandmother (the ones who were pushing guests on me) that if you want them at the wedding then you must pay for them. Also, I dont want to be introduced to people at my own wedding. I am inviting all guests that are 21 and older with guest. I feel that now a days people dont just bring a guest to bring a guest and also our friends who are not dating anyone know everyone there so they wont be alone. I would tell my dad if you want these people at my wedding you have to pay for the bigger room.

I would ask your father to cut back on his list-if he cant then I would ask him to help pay for the cost.
I definitely think it is ok to invite your single guests as just that-single. The ones that are in a relationship, etc. I would invite with a guest.

I wouldnt imagine that its that big of a deal for him to either trim his guest list or take it out of his pockets - weddings are expensive - and im sure that once he understood what it actually costs he would be more understanding to either trim the fat or pony up some money
