I am trying to keep my wedding at 100 people because I am paying for it myself. I have family coming out of no where that I havent seen in years asking for invitations and assuming theyre invited. I planned on inviting those close to me. If I had the money everyone would be able to attend, but its just not in my budget and I feel that if these people haven't been in my life for so long why all of a sudden should they attend? How do you kindly let people know theyre not invited??

Re: Guestlist Problems
we didn't say anything ... we just had them figure it out when they didn't receive an invitation.
unfortunately, it's almost definite that somebody will be upset ... don't let it get to you

Re: Guestlist Problems
You gotta do what's best for you and FH and what fits in your budget. If you tell them right off the bat that you're keeping it small, they shouldn't expect an invite. I know a few people that have done this.

Re: Guestlist Problems
don't worry about it.. when they see its more the immediate family being invited then they will totally understand that you want to keep it small!!

you have to do what you feel comfortable doing, you dont owe people an explanation

Re: Guestlist Problems
its kind of rude of them to assume there invited. I wouldnt worry about it.. Just send invites to whoever you planned on .. maybe your parents can explain it to them

Re: Guestlist Problems
We had this happen as well. We had a large wedding but still had family friends and family telling us 'can't wait to party' or 'can I be invited to your wedding'!?!? I simply told them 'we are on a small budget and we both come from large families so it's just those that we see regularly. Sorry.' Some people understood and some people got p*ssed but honestly, we weren't that close anyway (otherwise they'd be invited) so them being mad, didn't really affect me in any way.
