Guests inviting guests?

Guests inviting guests?

I don't post often, but I need opinions..

Invites went out last week and FH gets a call today from his uncle from upstate saying that he invited a friend from Germany to stay with him the week of our wedding and asks if we can invite him to our May wedding. What??

History
1) we have had our wedding date for over a year now
2) his uncle is married with four older children who live at home (college age) and one is getting a guest (FH's cousins boyfriend we've never met)- that is 7 people invited from this one family alone
3) never got a congratulations on our engagement
4) our hall guarantee is 165, we gave FH's family 80 invites b/c he has a large family and his mom invites 103 people, HELLO I have a family and friends too
5) FH and I are paying for the wedding ourselves

I am so upset, who does this? Has anyone here encoutered this? I flipped on FH and told him absolutely not! Am I crazy for wanting to celebrate my wedding with family and friends and not complete strangers

Re: Guests inviting guests?

ok so I am in the same situation with me inviting 95 he is inviting 125 and this was suppose to be a small wedding for costs. But i am sending invites to single people with no guest b/c if you don't have a significant other I can't bother paying $140 per plate so you can have a friend there its a freaken wedding not a BBQ. I am just waiting to hear people complain, but I am ok if they tell me they have a BF or GF they would like to have and maybe I just didn't know. I Agree with you though. My wedding is out of control and I am just trying to tame it somewhere

I agree with you don't think you need to invite the friend from Germany. Perhaps someone else can show him around that night or maybe he can entertain himself that night/day?

wow- scared of that happening, too

I am not INVITING people with guests IF they ARE NOT dating..........
I cannot believe we will get complaints about that!

but

TOO BAD! we are paying for it ourselves

as for you uncle-

NO!!!!!!!!!! SAY NO, sorry, he cannot bring his friend. His friend will survive one day!!!

THAT MAKES ME SO MAD!!!!!!

I would just say that you're already maxed out on people, so depending on how many RSVP you'll have to let him know. Tell him prob not though...

Re: Guests inviting guests?

Well, I understand how you feel but what is he supposed to do with his friend from Germany? I mean it's not like he's coming from Jersey. At least he called to ask you instead of just sending you back an RSVP that says the number of guests. You would be surprised at how many brides post that they invite people without a guest and they respond with a guest. That is flat out rude. Since your uncle asked you for permission why don't you tell him this-
you would like very much for him to be able to bring his friend, however you have exceeded the amount of guests you origionally planned to invite. Tell him that you will have to wait for some responses to come in to see if anyone replies back with a no and then you will let him know a few weeks before the wedding. That's the best you can do for now and if anything changes you will definitely let him know.

See, this way- no one gets mad or hurt or anything and you cover all your bases.

I hope this helped!
