Guests leaving early

Guests leaving early

A friend of mine told me today that she got my invitation and she and her b/f will definitely be at the wedding. But the b/f plays in a band and already has that night booked. They want to still come but leave at 9:15. CH is 6:30-8 and dinner will be served around 9:30. She asked if it would be a problem.

Do you think that if she tells the waiter/waitress they won't be staying for dinner and leave before dinner is served, that maybe we won't have to pay for them?

Should I include them in the final head count? I'm not sure if the RH does a head count too that evening by counting how many dinners are served.

Any ideas?

Youll def have to pay. RH makes the least amount of money off the cocktail hour, its the most expensive part. They would practically throw the dinner at you for free without a cocktail hour. Terrible what they do to us, just terrible

I'd ask the person at your RH...i can't see why they'd charge you for CH when its buffet style right?

I had a few guests who only came to CH. I didn't include them in my count. Why would you? The count if for seats at the wedding. I would tell your friend to come to CH but your not going to have a seating card for them since they cant stay. Silly to pay X amount for people who arent enjoying dinner/cake/dancing. JMO

I wouldnt count them, thats me personally. Theyre not eating dinner and RH is not going around during CH doing a head count.

I totally agree. Don't have a placecard for them and don't include them. The RH doesn't go around at the CH counting people.

I agree too BUT where are they going to sit at the actual reception...if you don't have a place card for them and they're not included in the final count you won't have enough chairs to seat them.

You know I hadn't even thought about this! But for me it was only one person that I knew was only going to be able to make the ceremony and CH so I just left her out of my head count. It seemed like there were a few extra seats anyway. They might throw a few extras out there to even up the rows. So you might be fine! Why pay for them if the RH will never know?!

if the RH will base the headcount off the dinner and not the CH, i would definitely not include them in the final count.

Don't include them.. Tell them to come and hang out during the cocktail hour.. the only issue is that if they want to stay for the hour after the cocktail hour they won't have a seat (unless there are extras)

I wouldn't include them in your final count. Cocktail hour is buffet style and they're not really sitting down to dinner. My hall keeps saying we pay 'per plate' and to me that means whomever sits down but we don't really have that situation either.

If, and only if, they are not coming to the dinner AT ALL, don't include them in your count. If they do plan on coming, seating, and having the appetizer, then it would be rude to not have a seat for them. Especially if they are giving you a gift.

Thank you for your advice ladies!

I am going to talk to the RH about how they handle this. I won't make it seem like it is actually going to happen. Just 'what if'.

Thanks again!
