Just wondering if its normal to have a number of guests (friends of ours) who came to our wedding but did not give any gift.
I'm wondering if many gifts come after the wedding (its been just over a month since the wedding), if some people just don't give gifts, or if some got lost? (Some of these are people that I know have given gifts at other weddings)
Its fine it I never get the gifts (thats not why we got married and its not why we invited these people) - I'm just wondering if other brides have experienced this...
My mother sent a check to a child hood friend of mine for her wedding. A few months later it was never cashed...she asked me to ask her if she got it...She never did...Maybe it got lost in the mail???
I can't speak yet for my wedding though

Re: guests without gifts - whats your experience?
I think I heard that the etiquette is up to 1 year to give a wedding gift. Maybe you're technically considered a 'newlywed' for 1 year. It's also possbile that people just forgot to bring an envelope or gift.

Although etiquette dicates a guest has 1 year from the date of the wedding most who attend give you a gift either before or on the day of the affair. I have heard that their guests who will not give a gift, they are either embarrassed that they cannot give a large gift or don't know better. Etiquette dicates that you should still send a thank you card for sharing your special day with you. My best friend got a card without a gift at her wedding from the owner of her husband's company. He actually called the next day and apologized. The check was sitting on the kitchen counter.

Re: guests without gifts - whats your experience?
A lot of our family members are coming to our wedding from out of the country, their presence alone will be gift enough for us. We do not expect any gifts from anyone. Our family and friends presence on our special day will make us very happy. My FI did not even want us to register. His comment was, we are not having a wedding to get gifts and that is the message registering sends out. I said honey, people will ask, what will I tell them
I think it is unfair to expect gifts from the BP members, especially after they have paid for their dress, shoes and the shower etc. I told my BP, I expect a card from all of them but no gift is necessary.
Whether or not someone brings a gift it doesn't make the day any less special or their presence there with us celebrating any less wonderful. I am happy that they have all agreed to join us to celebrate. What good is a wedding w/o guests. I expect a card with lovely words for my memories, so all my friends better get their butts to the card store.
