Now Now...there's a Sausage Snatcher AND a Meat Snatcher!

1017Bride... you can be Meat Snatcher! But you have to stay on the mountain until the 23rd!


Ketkrókur or Meat Snatcher (23rd Dec.) is the 12th Yule Lad to make his journey down from the mountains. Upon coming to a dwelling, he first climbs up onto the roof above the kitchen. Ketkrókur has thoughtfully brought along a long, hooked pole which he then eases down through the chimney. With amazing prowess, he proceeds to steal the smoked meat hanging from the rafters - sometimes even reaching all the way down into the pot for the smoked lamb that was traditionally boiled on this day!

Liz, I fear there's a very narrow margin between SMOKED MEATS and Sausage...I think we need to lay down some definitions and ground rules here...

Surprisingly not interested in pilfering food like most of his brothers, Hurðaskellir has a much more disturbing obsession: door slamming. Every door he comes across he must give a good slam, often repeatedly. For maximum effect and greatest pleasure, he indulges his desire in the middle of the night.
