Gum - an homage to my pal MonkeyLuv
I love to chew gum. I chew a piece of gum every day after breakfast. Oh, hang on…. let me first preface all this by saying that I am not a gum cracker. I just had to get that out in the open.
Anyway, I typically brush my breath with Dentyne![]()
But a couple of weeks ago I decided to try Ice Breakers. It was a pressure buy though – it was on the candy stand at the supermarket checkout line. The flavor is “Hot Cinnamon” with the word “Hot” being in flames which would imply that the flavor is pretty damn hot. It’s supposed to have “Intense Flavor for Ultimate Mouth Freshening”. Oh and it has those flavor crystal things which by the way are kind of like when you eat a baked clam and get that crunchy sand taste in your mouth. So my prognosis on the said “Hot Cinnamon” flavor is this – crayons have more flavor than this crap. Not that I’m positive about that, I’m just speculating.
Last week I was again tempted by the candy stand at the checkout line except this time I thought I’d hit the jackpot. I really couldn’t resist this one – Altoids has TWO new gums! (I just had to find a way to put “gums” in here somewhere because it sounds so silly!). The two new gums…*hee hee...snort*…. are sour apple and sour cherry. How can you go wrong there? So I got the sour cherry even though I was slightly skeptical about the sour cherry’s ability to get the taste of coffee and milk-cereal out of my mouth.
I popped a piece this morning, and the taste was very sour!!! It made me pucker like Renee Zellweger! Very cool. But, the flavor lasted all of about 30 seconds. Not cool Altoids, not cool….
So, the new sour cherry Altoids scored a 10 on the curiosly strong scale, but gets a big fat zippy on long-lasting flavor.
No more pressure buys for me; I’m sticking with my tried and trusted Dentyne Fire. Because it really tastes like what I think fire would taste like, if you could taste fire. And the flavor lasts! HELLooo!
