Gurney's - has it been updated

Gurney's - has it been updated

Some of the older reviews on here refer to Gurney's as 'shabby' or 'in need of renovation' but the newer reviews seem to be better. Has it been updated?

Any recent brides and/or guests want to feedback on Gurney's? Seems like it would be a great locale - just concerned about the mixed reviews on food/service/decor.

Thanks!

I don't know if it's a rumor so I don't want to start anything but the other day at work someone said that they are selling.....I COULD BE WRONG!

I toured Gurney's this past December (2008.)

The ballroom there has been thoroughly gut renovated, and it is actually very very nice.

If you want to get married right on the beach, I can't imagine there are too many better places.

The catch is that if the weather is bad and you can't have your ceremony on the sandy beach, you have to do it in this musty dank unrenovated room near the ballroom. And it is pretty foul.

So, if you are the kind of gal who is willing to take a chance on weather, I tend to think Gurney's is a fantastic choice.

Ultimately, I decided to get married in March, so I am not having a beach wedding, much to the dismay of FH. who lobbied hard for a beach wedding.

I toured it in October and it was old and shabby...dunno if its been updated since then...I went back and forth on if it was 'charming' or just 'old' and decided on old.

Gurneys ladies, no offense, JMO!

I called there for 12/09 pricing, and it was pretty competitive, and they offered to throw in a free week's stay for FH and I.

Agree...did they offer you 20% off? I think that's what they do for winter dates and/or booking last minute.

I don't remember the specific percentage off (I don't think they presented it like that), but it was deeply discounted. Rate was good, just decided didn't want to drag everyone that far east.
