Guys-gift giving question...

Guys-gift giving question...

Okay this is the holiday story of my life....

DH- Jan, we really don't have it this month, lets wait a month, i will save and we can celebrate then...maybe see a play or something(this should be my tip off, dh hates plays)

Jan-Okay sounds fine(all of my checks go into our savings accounts, DH's money is our living money, so I have no idea if we have extra cash for gifts or not)

DH- Okay so no stressing over gifts okay?

Jan-no problem

fast foward to holiday...I have gifts given to me, while I have nothing for DH..He swears he is fine with it..and does not want me to spend any of our savings on him, which is why he pulls this stunt.

I always try and do something nice, like valentines day..coupons for massage, or christmas eve, cooked all his fave spanish dishes.

But do you think he really wants me to get him a gift. I don't think so, but do you pull this with your gals? lets not exchange..then exchange? TIA

i never do this

we both agree whether or not to exchange and then we stick to it

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

yeah my dh is sooooo cheap, that instead of spending 100 on me and me spending 100 on him, he would rather spend the 200 on me and him get nothing. so I guess he is not cheap, I guess a sacraficer? I don't know what you would call him, but he swears that it works out perfectly. He says he loves seeing me surprised, and i try and explain even if we were exchanging I would be surprised with what I received and he said it is more fun this way

ETA: is the junk yard dog still alive? he use to be my fave

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

would DH be mad if you got him something?

Janice Posted:

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

no not mad at all..we are in such a house saving mode, that we hate spending money, so we sacrafice so much..so when it comes time to spend money, he wants to get me double and him nothing. He has always been like that, he always says us getting married is the best gift life could have given him. I know a lot of men do this though, lets not exchange then they exchange, do they except us to get them a gift?

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

they have to be out there...I know my DH is wonderful and i am sooo in love with him, we are going on 11 years together, I have faith that someone else will post with the same dilema by the end of the day

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

i mean not to sound crass, but if we were saving cash and we agreed on a budget, or if we said, 'no gifts', then it's 'no gifts'

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

okay, he does this, he says because I sacrafice a lot for the house down payment(which I really don't mind doing, it is all happening so that i can be a SAHM like I want to) so he wants to make up for it.. if we are spending 200 on valentines day, 100 for him 100 for me, he would rather fake it and say not this month, then spend all 200 on me, because he says he does not need anything and wants me to blown away and surprised. I did not think this was going to turn negative, I was just asking that if any guy does this, are they disappointed when their wife does not pick up on it and get them something as well

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

not being negative at all

that's cool that he does this -- just stating how we do it

wanna see who else responds

No, I got no presents, just a card and a home-made dinner. I would be very grateful to him for spoiling you, but I would also get him a smaller gift--maybe not $100, but a DVD or game he would like?

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

oh yeah def, when he said funds were low, I made dinner and set up a makeshift massage parlor..lol...I think I am going to get some blockbuster gift cards as a reserve and pull them out when he does this

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

and the fact is, we spoil each other rotten, it's just never really a surprise

like on christmas, it'll be said, 'im going to spoil you rotten'

or 'we need to save money, so 50 bucks each'

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

yeah Don, that is how I would do it too, I am going to set the rules for christmas this year, maybe i will pick something up once a month for him till christmas and shock him, so when he pulls his stunt again I will be ready

Re: Guys-gift giving question...

there's a good idea

and i will admit, we do surprise each other on occasion
