gym question

gym question

Now that I'm only taking 3 credits and have made my job schedule easier to work with, I'm going to be getting back to the gym finally. Woohoo!

I plan to go every other day..that's what works best with my schedule. What do you girls recommend doing at the gym? Meaning how long for cardio and how long for weights?

30 min cardio, 30 min weights? 60 min cardio, 30 min weights? What do you do?

TIA!

Re: gym question

I do 45 minutes of cardio every time I go to the gym. I have a few routines I do regarding weights--upper body primarily. I do that for however long it takes me, then I bounce. I don't do weights ALL the time--only when I have some extra time. I take a yoga class and I work with a personal trainer once a week, so that gets me some strength training.

I will say that I used to only do 30 minutes of cardio, but I've upped it to 45. Sometimes instead of that, I give myself a distance or calorie goal and work to that instead of a time goal--it makes the time go by faster (it seems)

Re: gym question

I just had a session with a personal trainer....he told me I should aim for 30-40 minutes on the elliptical at a 10 resistance. He said this because I need to build muscle in my legs. This same trainer also told my FH that he needs to go on the treadmill for over an hour. It really depends on what you need to do. Are you looking to tone/build muscle (follow mine) or lose fat (follow FH).

As for weights, I think you should never do more than 30-40 minutes in a day. Depending on your schedule, you can break up your body parts and do more frequent sessions that are shorter. Or if you can't fit weights in every day, go longer. Remember not to weight train the same body parts in consecutive days. The muscle needs time to rebuild itself.

Re: gym question

start off slow with cardio.. and build up..

get on a treadmill and see how long u can go...

once you get the hang of it.. u then should push yourself.

remember to eat SUPER healthy.. cuz no matter how much time u spend at the gym, if diet is poor.. the gym is useless.

I can do over an hour on the treadmill and elliptical, but I'm trying to figure out what is too much. All so confusing!

I think anywhere from 30-45 minutes is good .. Try to do distance goals .. Like see how long it takes you to run/walk to 5k and then you can set goals .. Like if takes you 45 minutes to do 5k the next day you should aim for 40 minutes, then 38 minutes and so on ... I started running/walking 5k at 43 minutes ... Im down to 5k in 32 minutes .. It just makes it easier when you have a goal in mind. Good luck!!!!!
