Gyms

Gyms

I am thinking about joining a gym but I know they are expensive. I figured maybe if I pay money to a gym, it will guilt trip me into excerising. How much does a gym cost to join? I also thought about curves. Is there a cost to join curves? Thanks.

Re: Gyms

There's a cost for EVERYTHING nowadays girlie

If cost is most important to you, I think Lucille Roberts was pretty inexpensive ($20 a month?) Bally's, NY Sports CLub and GOlds Gym can go from $50 a month to $75 a month (YIKES!) Jazzercize is about $45 a month. Im not sure about Curves and how they price it. Im not sure if its monthly or weekly?

Find out about what hours they are open, make sure they have classes that you like, see how busy they are on the times that you plan to go. I had a membership to Jazzercize. It was SOOO OVERCROWDED that it was ridiculous.

Good luck!

Re: Gyms

It really depends on the facility and what is important to you.

For example, aerobic classes (Step, Spin, Kickboxing) are really important to me, so I drive further and pay a little more for a better club with better classes.

I also like the club feeling more than the gym feeling. Meaning I don't like a gym that caters to only weights and machines. I

like ta club where the aerobics room is big and people are not on top of each other, that offers other sports like tennis, racquetball, weights, yoga etc...

Where do you live? Do you have alot of facilities around you?

Peabody - Where did you join? Sounds like what I am looking for. I wanted to join Golds, but by the time I started looking into it again (last week) , they dont offer as many classes or choices than last year. I am really interested in the classes. I did pilates at a studio (mat classes) for two years and my instructor that I loved left and is too far where she is now, so I want to start something new.

Cindy, I go to Sportime in East Quogue. They have a couple of Sportimes on Long Island. My friend goes to the one in King Park, near Commack.

Here is the website:

Peabody - I am in Smithtown. I was going to sign up for Golds, but the class schedules seem like they were cut back since last year. Now I am trying to figure out where to go

Re: Gyms

Hey Cindy,

I'll check the Powerhouse Gym on 347 with you. I work in StonyBrook, so maybe I'll try it, or just try a class, I love taking new classes. I don't think I will join, but it is worth checking out.
