Re: habitat for humanity
I did last year, but by now you are probably there. It was tiring - I was exhausted by the time I went home, but felt great about it. I am hoping to do it again this year - the group I participated with have an annual thing.

Re: habitat for humanity
I had a pretty lousy experience doing it w/my company in Bellport. It was August so it was HOOTT!! We were assigned to painting the interior of a house. They had these cookie tin type things covering the windows (to protect them from vandalism) and they refused to take them off. The house was like the easybake oven and we were literally sweating to death. I was 'assigned' to paint the closets, so there was no ventilation and the paint they provided us with was crap. It didn't cover and it took forever to do with the sub-standard materials they gave us to use. The foreman was a real jerk and kept complaining about the work we did. He openly made a comment that it would have benefitted them more if our organization made a cash donation instead of sending woman to do construction. Hey jerky, I don't work the UNION, so shove it!!! Then the new 'homeowner' came in and started bit!hing about that this was not done and that was not done, etc., etc. By this time we felt disgusting and any pride we felt in our efforts was deflated. We started THROWING the paint on the walls and then smearing it around just to get it finished because the rollers gave out and they wouldn't give us any more materials. I would never do it again. Alot of people had great experiences but mine and the co-workers of mine who were assigned 'in the house' had a very different experience.

Is this the same day that 2 of our Co Workers got a little cozy while painting?

That must have been in the other house because the only cuddling going on was the WWF action over the paintbrush!

Re: habitat for humanity
My sister did it in the Philippines. She said it was grunt work, since she doesn't know anything about house building. But she had a great time.

I was on the first All woman build that they had last year, so ALL the people building the house were women. That might be why I had a better experience
