Had a bad day...may be TMI and too graphic.

Had a bad day...may be TMI and too graphic.

I went to work this morning and at about 9.30 I felt something wet and cold 'down there' . Went to the bathroom and my underwear was soaked! I waited a half an hour and went back to the BR and it was still wet, but a little had dried. Went one more time at about 10.30 and it was wet again. Consulted my mommy friend who has a 7 year old and she said to call teh DR. They gave me a 1.00 appt. and at 12.30 I picked up my friend~I was not up for going alone. By the time I got to the DR, I was wet again. Went to the dr and they did a pelvic exam looking for dilation and pH levels. The heartbeat was there at 139/min. They took urine beacuse I complained of a UTI last Monday. He said he felt I may be leaking fluid. Went to Mercy and was admitted as an outpatient. Brian showed up withing a few minutes of me getting there. They did a stress test and could not find the baby's heartbeat. They tried for 15 minutes while I sat in cried. They wouldn't let Brian in until they found it. They called in a sono tech and let Brian in in teh meantime. They used a sono to find it~ Turns out this active little baby was in the head down~like ready to deliver postion~hanging out in my pelvis causing major pain/pressure, which is why I feel like he/she was about to fall out. Once they finally found the heartbeat, I went for a sono. By this time, baby was transverse, lying on it's back across my uterus. Fluid measured normal, but they feel I may have had alot more fluid and a little trickled out. Babies legs are really long though, like mine, and are measuring a week and a day ahead of teh rest of him/her. Next, we went for a contraction monitor and fern test. Fern test is a pelivc exam without the lube~OUCH~where they look at the sample under a microscope for amniotic fluid. They also did another urine test and found protein~I was dehydrating...
The contraction monitor had some issues. Baby had teh hiccups, which was pretty cool because I have felt them before and had NO CLUE what it was! While teh head is in teh pelvis, it felt reaaaaaaaaaally weird, like it was really about to come out. So after teh child finally stopped hiccuping (which was making a few curves on the recorder...), they said my uterus only contracted while teh baby was swimming around in there like a fish. It was all over teh place. So I was not going in to early labor. Just dehydrated and most likely leaking urine from an overactive child knocking in to it every chance it gets. They will be sure in Thursday. If they find a lower level...bedrest for a few weeks for me. They tried to get me to take off for two weeks, but I just can't. I will if I have to after Thursday's results. So, I had a really bad day. They were goign to keep me with IV, but my doctor said to go home, rest and drink atleast one glass an hour. I haven;t had almost any salt since last Monday because of swelling, but I know that your body needs salt for hydration so I had something salty as soon as I got out though. I need sleep though. So, It was not a great day...

I can't imagine how scary that was for you. I hope you feel better soon and won't need bedrest. I've heard it's really frustrating.

Not to ask a dumb question, but what do the hiccups feel like? Is that the spasms I sometimes feel? I had BH earlier, so I know what those are, but sometimes my whole belly seems to be moving, if that makes any sense.

OH laurie...I'm so sorry you had a bad day....but I'm glad to hear everything is ok....it must have been those big feet (that I'm still waiting to see) bumping into everything. Try to rest!!!! Let me know if you need anything!

This happened to my girlfriend and everying turned out just fine, she just had to rest until the baby stopped being so active and settled down and stopped causing havoc. I'm so sorry you had such a stressful day, I held my breath when you wrote they couldn't find the baby's heartbeat, that is frightening, I know it happened to me a few times.
Do you know what you're having? From the sounds of the bpm (beat per minute) in the baby's heart rythm, it sounds like a boy!! Girl's hearts usually beat about 150-160. That is how I knew I was having girls whenever they put me on a monitor, they'd tell me the reading and I knew both times! Take cfare of yourself

Glad all is fine, Laurie!!!

(I've been there with the leaking urine during pregnancy. I thought my water had broke at 6 months...not fun and pretty embarrassing! )

The hiccups feel like a heartbeat~mine just happened to be alllllllllllllllllllllllll the way down there. The heartbeat was up and down when the baby was moving so I really can't tell if it was boy or girl range. This child was all over the place. We were given a picture of the baby and it was cute because the sweetheart sono tech even made a copy for my friend who was with me.

Danielle~The legs are a week and a day ahead of the rest of him/her~imagine what the feet must be! It must have oars!

Rainmama~Yes, I hate going to the dr and they find nothing, but I am really happy in this case. Atleast they know I am dehydrated~how, I don't know bceause I drink like a fish! I showed BRian my underwear though~big wet spot~so he saw I wasn't making it up. He said it was way more than he needed to see... but he finally understood what meant.
