had my e-party -- led to registry issues! need your input for my mini-rant UPDATE
My e-party review and pics will come later once my mom emails me the pics!
Well, we got tons of presents, but about half of them were things we did not register for and did not come from the stores we registered at. This of course led to duplication of presents (I registered for a cake plate, for example, so I got that one and one from someone else too from another store). What can I do about returns? I didn't tell people, but I was getting really frustrated opening the presents yeterday. FH and I live together and we registered for things we REALLY need. We still really need these things! People didn't even always include a gift receipt so we really don't know what to do.
UPDATE: Oh, and I don't want people to think we are ungrateful -- we had a flood recently, so we actually lost a lot of stuff, and people knew about the flood. So when I say we had registered for things we really need, I am not kidding!

I would be really honest with people and say that you go a double of something and you wanted to know where you got the present so that you can return it for something you still need ...

I would say return them. Go on the internet and find out what stores carry the items. Maybe some will give you a store credit so you can return them without a receipt and then you can get what you really need. Sorry this happened!

Yes, exactly... I would thank them for their generous gift and tell them that you received two of whatever they gave you. Hopefully they have the receipt but if not just ask them where they bought it.
I hope you had a great time at your E-party!!!

I completely understand your frustration, but I would not tell someone that you are going to return their present. It is not mandated that you have to give a gift to an e-party so be thankful that they gave you one at all. Instead, I agree with flair. A few places will take things back even if you do not have a receipt for store credit. (Macy's is one, I believe.)
PS: I remember a '08 bride saying that if you quickly add whatever the item is to your registry at BBB, they will return it and give you the cash. That might make it easier to buy what you actually want.

Yes, I personally think it's kind of rude to go back and say that you need the reciept... People would automatically think you don't like their gift.

even if you dont wanna confront them about it you can even just go return it and exchange it for something you do like

First lets all remember that even though we register for gifts people do what they can even if its no off our registries, we should be thankful that they were kind enough to give a gift.
THEN i would call the duplicates & thank them kindly but let them know that you got several of whatever the piece is & if they wouldnt mind to please send you the gift receipt OR let you know where they purchased the gift. Otherwise look online & see who is carrying the item & return it there!

I say just keep it you never know when one may actually break. Also they didnt have to get you anything, remember you registered for the wedding not the engagement party! So the fact that they gave you something you should be grateful. If you gave me back a gift i gave at the engagement party especially since i didnt have to get it, i would think twice about getting you a gift for your wedding. You dont want people to think your a brat about the gifts. Be careful.

I would say thank you and go return it. I got the same frame 3 times already, just got it again the other day and, I returned it already and got things I needed instead.
