Had my NY Shower at Anthony's last Sunday with Review
It wasn't a surprise because I live out of state but FMIL threw me a shower for FH's family and my friends that's are still in NY last Sunday.
It was at Anthony's in Lake Ronkonkoma. For the most part it was really good just a few minor things we had issue with.
First let me say the food was delicious!! We had fresh baked garlic bread, then a house salad then the guests had their choice of 4 pasta dishes (seafood fetuccini alfreado, combo that had manicotti, ravioli and ziti, pene ala vodka with chicken, and tortellini with brocolli alfred (? i think) ). The portions were HUGE. Even though it may be tacky it was so much food that everyone was taking more than half their lunch home. We had 2 no shows so we had leftovers plus 2 extras to take him which we had for dinner that night so we all got to taste everything except the tortellini.
The manager did not set the tables up the way FMIL wanted so the space we were in was very crowded for our size group, 31 people. Because of how he had her set up the table people in the back couldn't see or hear when I opened gifts so I felt like they were bored during that whole process, which made it less fun for me.
The service was really good until dessert then it kind of fell apart. FMIL opted for pastry platter, emphasis on platters since she knows how much I love cannolis and italian pastries over cake (not that I need them). Well let me just say their idea of a platter was ridiculous. There were 11 people per table so for dessert they brought out a plate with 4 cannoli's and 1 cup of mousse for everyone to share. FMIL was appalled and complained right away and also asked about the tortoni (sp?) that she was supposed to get. So they said oh you can ask for more so they brought 1 more plate of 5 cannoli's to each table and then 1 slice of tortoni for each table. We were all really irritated but gave up not to cause a commotion during the festivities.
At the end the owner/manager asked FMIL if everything was OK and she said NO. So she explained her disappointment in dessert and how the platter were in fact not platters. I felt that the owner handled it very poorly. All he said was well you could have asked for more. He offered FMIL nothing, not a package of dessert to take home, no money off....NOTHING.
If we had cake I would probably have no complaints about the place and I hate to complain about anything because I was so grateful to FMIL for doing this for me. I got so many wonderful, generous gifts from some people whom I had never even met before. This was my 3rd shower and it was still fun being surprised and opening presents. My registries are getting close to being complete!
I would definitely recommnend Anthony's for small parties (25 or less) and really would only suggest that you have specific details on each course you are getting so that you have a leg to stand on and get money back if you have any problems.
I will try to post a few pics if I can get them a normal size.
