We had our tasting tonight and decided our menu. All of the food was very good. The waitress was excellent. I didn't try the cocktail hour food, but we tried a number of 1st course choices and entree choices. The steak is great. You barely needed a knife to cut it. They made a special swordfish w/salsa dish and that was great (or so I heard, I don't eat fish). We also had the salmon which was just great. The chicken dishes were good, but I wasn't wowed by them. But the quality of the chicken was great. I also tried to Crepe dessert and it was really good. I am having a very rich wedding cake so I wanted a less-sugary dessert. Also, the cocktail room/reception room door was opened and the cocktail room was decorated very differently than the last time I saw it. It looked much better than it did that day. The tables had pretty jars and touches on them. I am still undecided about the 'wall' being opened or closed. I need to speak to Lori when she gets back and hear what her experience was with it. But I thought I would let all you Hamlet brides know the food was really good and service was excellent.

I was also surprised and let's just say, upset. But after speaking about it with her a few times and getting the same, 'You can come on the golf course 1 hour before your event that is what you are contracted for' BS I decided to stop fighting. I was very stressed over it and was crying. Since I have a NOVEMBER evening wedding there is NO point in photos outside at 5pm- as there is no sun left. And I felt that they should know that and help me but that never happened.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
I'm on a Sunday at about 5:30ish...we better be able to get out there! FH will be so upset!
I'm doing an ice sculpture of a claddagh symbol. We're both irish so we thought it fit....and it was different than the basic doves and hearts...
I just showed them a picture and they said they could do it - hopefully it comes out!

Mrs2B- I also sent you an e-mail today. Just wanted to let you know.
That ice sculpture sounds beautiful. I wanted to go on the golf course at 1:30, they told me I had to wait until 5pm, which is no good. What time are you going for your photos?

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
My email is down today so I didn't get it yet!
I'll check again tonight or tomorrow.
My church is at 3:30 but we're not doing a mass. So, I plan on shooting over to the Hamlet right after the church. So, hopefully by 5...cocktail hour is at 6. I'll maybe go to half of my cocktail hour although I wouldn't care if I missed the whole thing. FH wants to go though....
I'm before daylight savings time so I'll probably be getting sunset shots mostly...I hope. If it's a rainy day, I think I'm going to go over to the hotel.
What are you going to do if it rains?

zac1228, the Hamlet in Happague told you that??? I have heard that the Hamlet in Commack does not let you on the course, but this Hamlet has no problem with it. The albums they have on display have pictures on the golf course. I am a little concerned. Can you please tell me who told you that?

Becky,
I was told by Tom when we booked that we would be able to take pictures on the golf course whenever we wanted. There was no time restiction placed on it. He also told us that in order to get around, we would need golf carts and just to request them ahead of time.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
Okay. This is NOT the information I was told about photos. Denise told me that I cannot be on the golf course that early. That I can go on 1 hour prior to my cocktail hour and not before.

Well, I have to say that I noticed alot of discrepancies between what Tom told me and what Denise has told me. But, I am sure that in the end, everything will work. It might just take some time and some negotiation.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
Michele, maybe the problem is the time of day. You should definitely call Denise and speak with her. She told me that we could take pics on the golf course when we booked. Then when my photographer told me that he has had problems at the Hamlet, I went back to her and asked about it. She told me that he probably meant the one in Commack (which he did) and that there would be no problem with us taking pictures on the course.
I have never spoken with Tom, but Denise has been awesome. Whenever I pop in to show someone else the place, she always takes time to speak with me and ask how the planning is going, etc. Give Denise a call and let her know about your concerns. Hopefully, she will be able to ease your mind, even if that it is by saying that she needs to see how many golfers have made tee times for that day, but that she doesn't think it will be a problem, since it will be cold. Even my golf obsessed FH doesn't play once it gets cold!
Keep us posted.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
Have any of you had a problem with the Windwatch hotel? At first they gave me the run around about having a two night minimum in Aug. They didn't want to let me do a room block. They finally agreed to do the room block, but only for 30 rooms. I am afraid that we will require more than that since most of our friends and relatives live out of town. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
I am Nov. so I didn't have any problems at the hotel at all. In fact, I found them to be super nice and easy to work with, but again, I am in an off-season.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
They ended up giving me the room block, for $139 per night, which is pretty good, they were just really hesitant to do it at first. I just checked online though, and you can book a room for the weekend that my wedding is for $169. That's still not too bad. I think that the Marriott and the Residence Inn are around that price as well. Does anyone know of any other alternatives?

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
We dealt with Lisa at the Wyndam and we had no problems. I can't remember how many rooms we blocked, but we blocked two nights in July (July 4th weekend) and we didn't have any problems. In fact, they told us to let them know if we needed more rooms and they would accomodate us.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
I had problems with the Wyndham because of their two-night min. also. It's Memorial Day weekend and they will NOT budge. I even went around them to the Wyndham corprate office. The finally agreed to give us 15 for 1-night, but NO more. So I am also using the Marriott Islandia, but their rate is $159 (they don't give a room block discount.) But, to my knowledge, for the Wyndham, as your block gets filled, they will renegotiate and add more rooms. That is what they told me. That's why I am having people start reserving rooms now so I can get them to add more 2-nights later.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
I didn't have any problems with the Wyndham either. We blocked out 25 rooms and had to guarantee 10 for $139 a night. I'm in October, Columbus day weekend. I got that room rate from Sat. night until Monday night.
The only thing I'm concerned with is the check-in time. My church is at 3:30 and the check-in is at 3. They said they'll hold the guests bags, but they can't guarantee rooms for them before 3.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
How much time is between your ceremony and wedding? We have about two hours, so I am assuming that most of the guests will check in after the ceremony.

I also think Lisa at the Wyndam is great to deal with. Super helpful every time I call. I have a 3:00pm Church and a 6pm reception start. So my guests can check into the hotel in-between if they need to.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
Is anyone doing welcome baskets at the windwatch? I would like to do something but I saw in my contract that there is a $3 charge per room, to deliver the bag. Has anyone talked to them about handing something to the guests when they check in? I would really like to do something but $3 extra per room could add up.

Re: Had my tasting at Hamlet Wind Watch today
I would speak with Lisa about this charge. I have a feeling it can be waived, unless you want the packages delivered to each room. I am having the packages kept at the front desk and handed out instead.
