I know recently there was a posting about a woman who comes to you on the day of the wedding and does both hair and make up. unfortunately, I can't find where I put the name and number. If anyone has it (or could reccomend someone else) I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Tammy

there was also a posting about a lady from the MAC counter at the smithhaven mall i think..and she comes to your house..and she was reasonable..maybe try a search on that also..i have that post printed out..but i have it at home..

My (TERRIBLE) experience with Elena

I hired Elena for my June 9th wedding and was NOT happy with her at all. She did a decent job on everyone's hair and make-up but took way, way, way, way too long to do everything - she was supposed to be done with EVERYONE at 9:30am, when my photographer was coming, and she wasn't done until 11am - 15 minutes AFTER we were supposed to have LEFT FOR THE WEDDING!!! She's a nice person, but she was awful and I would never, ever recommend her to anyone after the experience I had with her!!! It's because of her that I had very limited photos with my bridesmaids at my house - none of them were ready! Also, part of her service is that she's there with you while you're getting photographed to touch you up and whatever - well, when she's still busy doing your bridesmaids' hair, it's just not possible. It's because of her that I was stressing about being LATE to my own wedding!!! I heard Pauline (who actually recommended Elena to me when she was booked) is excellent and I know a couple of people who used her and were very happy. I'm sure someone on this board has her number and she comes to the house and everything.

I had my makeup trial with Jackie from IMAKEUPYOU in May and she was wonderful!! She did an incredible job and she was so nice to work with. She has a web site IMAKEUPYOU.COM--she also works with a hairdresser and both will come to you on your wedding day. She charges around $30 for trial which can be used towards the wedding day if you want. There have been many good reviews about her on this board that you can do a search on. Good luck!

I just had a trial with Jackie and Margaret and booked them on the spot. Needless to say I am very happy with the results. They will either come to you or you can go to the salon in Merrick.

I have heard a lot of great stuff about Elena on this board and have spoken to her. How many girls did you have done and was she late or was it just too many girls in too short of time?

I heard good stuff about her, too and that's why I booked her. Maybe what happened with me was a rare thing. I don't know. She was supposed to arrive at my house at 6am, but she came at 6:30 instead. I didn't think that would be a big problem, as there weren't that many girls to get done - it was me (hair and make up) and just hair for 4 girls. That still gave her 3 hours since the photographer wasn't coming until 9:30. She didn't get done until 11am!!! The limo was supposed to leave at 10:45. So now the photos I have with my bridesmaids at the house are extremely limited because we only had time to snap a couple of quick ones before jumping in the limo and rushing off! I was such a nervous wreck at that point about being LATE to my own wedding that I even had the limo driver pull over on the parkway because I worried that I'd forgotten the wedding bands! She did do a decent job on everyone, particularly with hair (make-up she does a little too heavy - oh, and buy your own mascara, as hers is clumpy) and she was nice, but totally, totally not worth all the aggravation. I'd definitely not recommend Elena to anyone.

I thought she did a great job. My once piece of advice for any brid using her has been the same: have her do only you. I used her for my wedding in Sept 2000 & I think I was one of the first people to post her name on here. I thought she did a great job, with hair & make-up. But she did my mom too, and we ran behind (not as much as the bride above, but we were about 1 hour behind schedule, thank goodness, we had padded our schedule, so it wasn't a really big deal). So my advice, after my experience, is: you should hire someone to just do you. That way, you are not rushed, stressed, or waiting around!

Any time. After you’ve been though the wedding planning, it seems so easy and you wonder why you stressed, so any advice I can offer to relieve stress, I’m more than happy to give. It makes a world of difference when the makeup/hair person is not rushed. Talk with whomever you book, but it will likely take two hours. A coworker of mine had the same problem and was also late for her wedding (she didn`t use Elena). It`s just not reasonable to expect one person to do more than one person in less than two hours. Plus if you add time in for extra people, the bride will always be the last person to get made-up. Do you really want to be waiting around for your turn on your wedding day? For my wedding, I had 2 hair people come to do 4 people and 1 make up person for all 4 of us. It all took about 4 hours with us rotating. We were all wearing our hair up so the hair people suggested we have our hair clean and dry to eliminate the blow drying time. I had a morning wedding so any time that I could shave off the prep time was more time to sleep (as if I was sleeping the night before :o) Actually, my photographer is who caused me to run late but that`s another topic... I think KGB is right, allow AT LEAST 2 hours per person no matter who you use.

I am having a 3:00pm wedding so I will have plenty of time to get ready. I will definately have lots of time to get ready. I will make sure I get a full 2-2 1/2 hours for myself. Thanks- Michele

I agree... My sister just started complaining when I told her how early I wanted to start - too bad...better to get up early than to deal with me in a frantic state...thanks for the advice.
