Hair and make-up booking without trial?

Hair and make-up booking without trial?

Has anyone been bold enough to book someone for hair and make-up without trying them out first?????

I am really considering it because of my busy schedule and the fact that this person is an established makeup artist....I also can't just dish out money for hair and makeup trial right now (tight budget) I can use it for so many other things.

Can anyone share their thoughts about this...and/ or experiences?

Thanks!

I wouldn't...even if you are totally confident with their work, its good to have a test run of everything you want to do the day of so that it goes more smoothly.

Im tempted to book without a trial. Just because ive seen the amazing work and read countless reviews... Some of these trial fees are outragious. I def cant afford bouncing around from one artist to another and paying in the process...

So i know what you mean!

I would book without a trial but I wouldn't have them come do your hair and makeup for the first time for your wedding day. Everyone is different and you just don't want to take that chance...Book and then have a trial when you can...it's worth the money for your day

I would not advise doing this. I had a disasterous first trial where if my hair or makeup ever turned out like it did day of, I would have died. Try to find someone who can do a trial on the weekend.

I wouldn't unless I had worked with them before. It's too risky to wait for the day of and hope all turns out ok.

Although I booked my artist without a trial, I'd recommend having one first. The only reason, I did it is because my makeup artists books fast and I love her work, so I was okay with it.

I would NOT book without a trial. I think that if the person does amazing work, that's great, but you may not like what you thought you'd originally like.

Example: The first makeup trial I went on, I wanted a dramatic eye, but I hated the dramatic eye. Everything I thought I wanted looked bad on me. It took 2 hours to find my perfect look (she was so patient and really sweet too). Imagine if that would've been my wedding day!!!!!

Example 2: The same thing happened with hair. I thought I knew what I wanted, but it didn't look good. It took almost 2 hours for that too and I still wasn't thrilled with the outcome. (I need to go for another trial).

My suggestion, call a makeup artist and ask if you can have a free trial if you agree to book with them and put down x-amount towards the day of right away. If they say yes, you've scored a free trial where you can just tweak what you want AND booked your makeup artist all in one shot. It'll cost you a tip, but that's not bad!
