hair color question

hair color question

OK, this is wedding related, I swear. I've never died my hair in my life, but I definitely have noticeable grays. Not just one or two either I'm scared to dye my hair right before the wedding, has anyone else died their hair right before? How long before should I do it? Should I do it at all? Normally I don't really care about this kind of thing. aaaa! TIA

Re: hair color question

Just try and match your hair so you can cover the parts you don't like and you don't have to worry about a whole new color hair

go to a salon now...so that you have time to decide on the color that works best for you..dont do a box..it can go bad!

I've been grey since I was 16, so I color it all the time. I have naturally black hair, but I dye it auburn. If you are just looking for grey coverage, pick a hair dye that is close to your natural color. My greys (when they are dyed) look like highlights! If you do not get the color you were looking for, a salon can re-dye it if necessary.

if this is your first time messing around with hair color I suggest you go to a salon-- tell them exactly what you want- grey coverage and staying your own color and they will deff help you!

I'm always covering up my grays. I've just go the Herbal Essence at home kit in a color that closely matches my natural hair color. I think for the wedding I am going to start going to get my hair dyed professionally.

ITA. It's worth the extra money for the peace of mind. I'd go now and find a color that matches your hair color and suits you best.

Re: hair color question

do it now... this way your colorist can tweak it, you can start w/ something mild... see if it covers etc.. Then she will write down your perfect formula this way theres no surprises before the wedidng lol, If you dont have a colorist I work in woodbury i can help u!

But i have the same thing, i have enough grays where im like, wait?? can people see these?? but ive been highlighting it a lot which pretty much covers them lol

I would go now to try it out to see how it fits.. but I would say a few weeks before the wedding should be good! I wouldn't dye it the week before or week of the wedding though.

ITA considering that you never colored your hair before, definitely go to a salon for color instead of using a box dye. I would also start going now so you ensure that you are comfortable with the color change waaaaaaayyyyy in advance!

Re: hair color question

I'd recommend trying it once way before the wedding at a salon, then go a week before the wedding again. It's not a big deal, since you're only covering greys. It's not like you're going blonde or something. After that, I'd recommend at-home kits, for sure!! Hair coloring isn't as scary as you may think.

Re: hair color question

Just know that once you start -- if its permanent -- you have to keep it up otherwise it will look oxodized if you let it grow out after because you dont want to keep going.. Ask the salon about a colored glaze so that way you dont have to go bak every 6-8 weeks and it will cover up the small amount of gray you do have.

Re: hair color question

thank you all!! I am so freaked out by this. I will make an appointment at the salon soon. I also would really like for this to be a one time thing, since normally I don't care about my grays. But both my mom and my sister have pointed them out and have been saying how bad they will look in pictures. FH makes fun of me all the time too

Thanks again for all your help!!

Re: hair color question

Once you work with a professional and find the right shade, I would do it 2 weeks before the big day so that if it comes too dark atleast you can get a few washes in before and it does lighten with each day.
