Re: Hair extension help for thinning hair?
I have the hairloc system and its awesome!! I absolutely love my new hair...I am desparate for a maintaince, but these are the absolute safest for your hair...no glue or sewing, its literally little metal locks that lay on your root...you cannot see them at all and can do anything you want to your hair.
I've had them in for over 2 months already and am just getting my first maintance on Monday...They are much easier since there is no stripping...they just replace the locks and slide them back up to make up for your own hair growth!
I also have thin hair and I am telling you I love them....check out my girl....HairbyMarissa.com!
If you need more info or would like her number let me know!

Re: Hair extension help for thinning hair?
I have very fine hair and I used a few (probably like 20) hairloc extensions on the top of my head to add some fullness. They looked great, no one could tell that I had them (until I told everyone) and there was absolutely no damage to my hair when I took them out.

Re: Hair extension help for thinning hair?
I had great lengths semi-perm extensions done a few times before and had a great experience w/ them. This being said, I know that my great lengths technician did ask me during the first consultation whether I had any issues (medical or what have you) that caused thinning hair, etc. The thing with most types of more perm extensions is that you need to have a certain 'strength ' to your hair so that your own hair can handle the heaviness of extensions. I know this was the case with the ones I had, which are put in by melting a keratin protein bond around many of your own hairs. This is done in many places all over your hair. They section and melt a bond into it, and then section and do it again, etc. So if you have really thin hair, the sections may not be big enough or thick enough to hold the extensions Id assume. I know that I have really thin hair and I have one section of my hair that is thinnest and in this area, the first time I got semi perm extensions put in, they fell out of that area first.
Another thing you might want to think about is, there is some damage, though minimal, done to your own hair in the process of having extensions in your hair so long. You may actually be doing yourself a disservice with damaging already thin hair. It may be a little thinner when you first get them out and you may feel like you just want to keep getting them back in again and again to cover that up, which can get very $$$! Just FYI. And this is all just from my experience. Maybe other kinds of extensions are a good option for you, but I would def suggest talking at length with someone who is knowledgable and has experience doing it so they can give you their opinion whether its worth it for you.
It sounds like clip ins may be a better option, since no damage is done to your own hair. JMO!

Re: Hair extension help for thinning hair?
I got the clip in extensions from a kiosk at Roosevelt field mall- let me tell you, they are fantastic! The color matches my hair color perfectly and they are so easy to put in! The sales girl even told me if I had trouble putting them in the day of my wedding, I could come to her and she would do it for me! They blend in perfectly- my own father didn't even realize I had 'fake' hair in.

This is great advice...ive had extensions twice but your best bet is to talk to someone about this and let an expert see what is best for you. We all can tell you what was best for us but that might not help you out, and everyone has different experiences with something.
BTW you said you have thyroid problems and your hair is getting thin, do you have any loss of hair? the reason i ask is bc my moms best friend had a thyroid problem for YEARS and let it go on for too long until she finally had surgery and she never had a problem with her hair...My cousin also has a thyroid problem but she also has a problem with hair loss, they found out though that the hair loss was actually because of iron deficiency and she has to take supplements bc of it...I have no idea if this is your case at all of if you just have thin hair or if you also have hair loss. If this doesn't apply just ignore it lol
