Hair Loss

Hair Loss

Over the last few weeks I have been loosing a lot of hair (more than usual) and feel my hair is drastically thinning out. I have very long hair now. When I run my fingers through my hair, as many as 10 or 15 hairs are somtimes left in my hand. I also notice I am loosing hair in the shower. It is all from the root. FH think I am going crazy. I did dye my hair about a month ago.

Any advice? Have you one through this?

I know in the summer time my hair thins as well.. It usually lasts a week or two and then it slows down. FH always says its my molting season lol. I dont have any real advise for it, but wait it out a week or two and see if it slows down... if it doesnt maybe see a doctor. Sometimes it could be a vitamin thing.

Thanks I am hoping that is all it is! It has been about 2 weeks now. Maybe I will give it some more time. I think I will stop dying my hair for a while too! I wonder if it is the stress too!

i lose a lot of hair all the time, i think everyone does.. maybe the summer makes it worse. i'd say get your haircut, that usually makes your hair healthier and thicker, even if it's just a trim. and use a thick leave in conditioner every couple of days.

I wouldn't stress it honestly... seems to make it worse. I had this happen reeeal bad about a year ago. I was even waking up in the morning with a LOT of hair on my pillow! OY! It scared me b/c I love my hair...very thick and full. I was actually thinking that it was from the japenese straightening...
Sure enough it was nothing. lasted almost 2 months... even went to the doctor and she said it was mainly stress. So, honestly, just breathe, and it will be fine. And, it also is from the warmer weather. I've been losing more then normal right now too, but nothing like last year... OY> Good luck and hope it all works out. :)

Have you lost any weight recently?...This happened to me a few years back when I lost 10-15 lbs and I read that sudden weight loss can cause your hair to fall out

I lost maybe 5 pounds in the last 2 months (nothing major). I also stopped taking the pill in Jan this year. Other than recently coloring my hair, no recent changes other than normal work/wedding stress.

The same thing happened to me a few months after I went off the pill. I think it is probably related to that. It only lasted a few months.

Hi
You can go to GNC or Vitamin World and they have a vitamin specifically for hair & nail strength. Always take a muti as well. Some salons sell hair shampoo & conditioner product by Bumble & Bumble which helps your hair grow back.
Try em'
Good luck!

Re: Hair Loss

it can be a recent illness or diet change. your hair may fall out, but on a delay -- when I was in college I was really sick for a few weeks, and about 2 months later I had an increase of hair falling out (more than my usual couple of strands here and there). Stress might also be doing it.

Thanks girls. I am going to try not to worry about it and if it continues after another month or so I will see a doctor. I will def. head to GNC too!

Don't worry about it! It might be just stress. (Wedding planning can do that to you.) I remember my senior year of college I was so stressed between classes, working full time, and my internship and my hair was falling out left and right. Eventually it stopped doing that. My doctor said that hair loss is sometimes a side effect of stress.

I have lots of thick hair usually, weding stress really getting to me and I think thats why I'm loosing hair too. Not the usual amount, lots. Have to get on Vitamin E and lots of massages!

I noticed I was losing a lot of hair and my skin was really dry. Turned out I had Hypothyroidism

Re: Hair Loss

I have noticed my hair has thinned out significantly over the past 5 years. I know that our hair is usually thickest during teenage years but I miss how thick my hair used to be.

I think my hairline is receding a bit from all the years of wearing my hair in tight ponytails. My hair was so thick and hard to manage so putting it up was the quickest and easiest thing to do.

Hypothyroidism... hmm... sounds like something that would fit me as well. Is there a medication to take to treat that and will it help restore hair? I should look into it.

I am always shedding and the hair in the shower is a bit much.

So as you can see, you are not alone.

I had pneumonia twice and it damaged my thyroid gland. They drew blood and checked the thyroid hormone levels -- it was really easy. Within a few weeks of starting meds I saw a real difference in my hair and skin. The downside is that you have to be on the meds for the rest of your life.

I am so glad I posted. I am feeling so much better knowing that I am not alone. I have been working 60-70 hours a week, wedding stress, other drama - sounds like this all might just be adding up to a lot of abnormal stress. I like the massages reccommendation!!!
