I got a quote from someone in LI that I like (although my only reference is here) but my fiance wants me to look at places here in Staten Island. I tell him they will charge us to travel and he swears they won't. Well.. we even KNOW someone at this salon in S.I. and I got a call back today with prices for them as she said 'To travel' $250 per service... soooo $500!? GEEZ!!! What a total rip off!! Come on... Do you know what I could do with $500? I am a total glamour girl too so this is important to me but that's just way too much. If anyone got good prices and beautiful work and wouldn't mind PMing me? I just can't see spending $500... that's an obvious taking advantage of a bride in my opinion.

I think if you want them to go to you, that doesn't sound that crazy for hair AND make up. The way that I've noticed they work is that the Bride has a pretty hefty fee (thats the charge just to get the person there) and then once they're there, the cost for additional people (bridesmaids, MOB, etc) is much much cheaper. For instance, my make up is $250, and the bridesmaids are $85.

My make up is the same price as listed above so I agree it's not that bad for both and traveling from SI to LI. Although if you're getting ready in LI I don't see the point of finding someone on SI when there's so many people to try out here.

This!!!! And what if there's traffic on those bridges. I wouldn't even want to risk it. I rather pay someone for a trial to go to SI or meet them in LI than to have them travel on my wedding day. I say look for someone on LI.

Yeah I have the opposite issue, I'm getting married in New Jersey but I'm from the island. I wasn't about to pay extra for travel fees so I researched stylists in jersey and found someone fantastic. Def look for someone where you are getting married you'll save that money for something else.

I'm using someone in Bellmore for hair and makeup. She was recommended on here and her prices were great. I have my trial in a week, but she did cut my hair and she's awesome. She's super inexpensive for makeup (compared to all the people I have contacted). If you're interested FM me.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I work in a hair salon and it always gets me how surprised people are by this - weddings are typically Friday-Sunday, which are a salons busiest days... so for that time period that they are on location doing your hair/make up - they are not at their salon doing clients, and traveling with all of their equipment. I personally feel that merits an extra expense as opposed to if you were to come into the salon and have your hair and makeup done, coming from Staten Island to Long Island is not a walk around the corner. I'm not saying they should try and charge you triple what you're paying, but there is a reason that you want them to come to you rather than go there.
