What's the best way to keep curls intacted for several hours? Besides hairspray overload- are there any techniques or products you ladies can suggest? Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is hairspray the crap out of the curls. It's so frustrating!!!

Unfortunately hairspray is the trick. You dont have to drown your curls in it though. Try these steps.
1- Make sure your hair is dirty.(Like washed the night/day before)
2- If you hair has a slight wave to it,, DONT blow it straight. Leave it like that. It will take better
3- If you have any mousse def put some it before you dry it and also try using a little on the hair when its dry before you curl it. I've found that helps sometimes too
4- Spray the hair slightly with some spray before each curl

I find that when I do these steps to my clients it works. Let me know how you make out. Also.. Is the iron you're using too big?? You might have to go to a smaller one. I know you probably dont want banana curls, but you'll have to start out that way and within a few hours it will drop and loosen up..

Re: Hair Question

lol, this is going to sounds horrible but when my hair is damaged, it holds curls so much better.

I have stick straight asian hair and NEVER curled it before I went to college. Girls there introduced me to the curling iron.

In the beginning, the curls would fall out pretty quick but after abusing it with irons and coloring, it would hold up pretty well. After I get a haircut, it takes a couple of weeks for the hair to hold the curl again since the nasty ends have been chopped.

This is what works for my super straight hair-

I work Nexxus volumizing mousse into my damp hair after a shower and blowdry COMPLETELY. The product def helps hold the curl in my experience. You can do this the day before you curl.

Have the heat on the iron high (it's horrid for your hair but it works).

Do the curls in sections so that you can hairspray each section as you finish as opposed to the whole head after wards.

Make the curls tighter than you eventually want it because it will loosen up a bit.

I use Big Fat Hair hairspray, mega hold. lol and it doesn't give me stiff helmet hair.

hope this helps!

Re: Hair Question

This might sound a little gross but definitely do not wash it the morning of... I've learned that curls hold better if your hair has a chance to renew all of the natural oils so the dirtier the better... and all these ladies are right, any Big Fat Hair products works amazingly well..

Good luck!!! :)
