Can someone please explain to me what a 'Hair Trial' is? I went today for a hair/make-up trial at a salon near my house. I sat in the chair and had my make-up done as if it was the day of the wedding. Great... that's what I expected. She used all the colors and make-up she would use the day of. This was called a 'trial.' Now, when I went to sit in chair for my hair trial (again, they called it a 'trial'), the girl asked to see pics of what I want, she asked me what kind of curls I want, how big and where I want my part. I tell her and she makes the part, pins the sides of my hair back and procedes to put my hair up with her hands and tells me.. 'Ok... this is pretty much how it would look the day of, but of course it would be in curls and a lot neater obviously since I'm only holding it up with my hands.' That was it!! That was my so called trial!! It was only $25... but still.. I was expecting to actually see with my own two eyes what my hair would look like! Not by using my imagination! Anyone could have done that! Hell, I did that before I went there! I put my tiara on my head, held my hair up and said this is how it would pretty much look but obviously much neater! I'm just really po'd! I didn't know what to do so I paid the $25 to sit in the chair for 10mins and left! But I think I am going to call up tomorrow and speak with the mgr, b/c I think they should explain that a hair trial means a $25 10min consultation with absolutely nothing done to your hair! I even told my FH not to come over tonight b/c I didn't want him to see me all 'done up'. So much for that!
So, back to my question... is this what a hair trial is?

A hair trial should be like it was the day of your wedding. The point of a trial is to see if it looks right with your headpiece and to see if you like it.

I went to two trials and both consisted of pretty close renditions of what my hair would look like, including curls. The person I ended up chosing said it was important to get really close to what I wanted so there were no mishaps that day... I would find someone else!

That was not a trial, what a waste of time. My trial was not perfect but she spent at least a half hour to 45 minutes on it. It was pretty close to how it will look. Better luck next time. I would call the manager.

Re: Hair Trial - Long Vent - Help Please
my hair trial is 'as if real day' - maybe not AS neat, but mostly there. I don't understand not actually doing it! How would you know how good she is? How long the trial would last?
Thats rediculous!

You're telling me! I don't know why I paid. I'm usually the first to say something when I don't like or agree with it. I was just was so surprised by it that I just paid and left. And now I'm fuming! I am definitely calling the mgr tomorrow morning.
P.S. - Thanks ladies!

I got a full trial. And, then I made her take my hair down so DH wouldn't see it. But, that was my choice. Also, my mom got 2 trials done- same day, she just hated the first style, so they did another one. They only charged her for 1 trial.
but, the salon is owned by my DH's uncle and they knew who I was when I came in. So, I guess I got special treatment.

Yeah, I am sorry but the hair trials are supposed to be exactly like your make-up trial was...an exact replica of what you will have day of. You want to make sure the person doing it does it well, that it will last all day and most importantly it is what you like.

Re: Hair Trial - Long Vent - Help Please
I swear I think we were at the same shop today because the same exact thing happened to me! The girl played with my hair for 20 minutes and when I left it looked exactly the way it did when I got there! She parted my hair and clipped it up the exact same way I did when I first got my headpiece! I even made a comment to the receptionist and she said the $25 was for the consultation......well I didn't ask for a consultation I asked for a trial! It was such B*ll Sh*t. I wish I got paid $25 for 20 minutes! I was so mad and I'm not going back there. Now that I have read this I think I am going to call teh manager too. I really want to know if we were at the same place because there was another trial after me. My makeup looked terrible too!

Re: Hair Trial - Long Vent - Help Please
Listen-I have been a makeup artist for weddings for years now, and when i do a trial, it takes an hour. FULL makeup, exactly as it will be the day of the wedding. your hair trial should be the same way, no exceptions. i would find another place. its so annoying how people take advantage of brides.

It is the next day and I am still fuming about this trial! I really didn't look for other places in the area to do my hair and make up so now I'm screwed. They probably would have done a nice job but now I just wont go back there just for the fact they they charged $25 for no reason at all. Thats it I'm calling the manager there.

Re: Hair Trial - Long Vent - Help Please
litlone555: It WAS the same place!!! I just readyour FM and wrote you back! I called and spoke with the owner and went off! I told her that what they did was a waste of my time and money and that it was not right. I explained to her the definition of what the word 'trial' means, verses the word 'consultation'. She was apologetic and told me to come back in for a FREE up-do (not that it is really 'free' since I already paid $25 for nothing), but at least this time I will leave there with my hair done the way it should have been done last night. I will make sure they spend a lot of time doing my hair the way that I want it done.
Write back to my FM when you receive it.

Re: Hair Trial - Long Vent - Help Please
Ok now you've got me curious-please FM me with what place so I know it isn't the place I have a hair trial scheduled at!!! I would be so so pissed-a hair trial should be your hair getting done as if your wedding was today!!! I went once for a consulation for my brothers wedding and they did the holding the hair up thing-but she didn't charge me anything she had just heard (From my Sis in Law) that I was super picky about my hair and she just wanted to chat with me and get on the same page so we were in sync for his wedding day.
