the curls are very pretty, but I think it would look even better with more volume overall, especially on top

IMHO i think you need way more curls. If your hair doesn't hold the curl perhaps you can get some curled extensions to make it fuller and curlier. Either that or consider an updo. You don't want to worry about it falling flat on your wedding day. I would try again. Sorry I'm just being honest

Disclaimer: my hair DOES NOT hold a curl AT ALL. She (Carolyn from Sabrina and Carolyn) only had the curls pinned for like 20 min - the day of it will be pinned for like 2hours!!
I actually love it the way it looks now. That's how I'm getting mine done. I don't want a ton of hair spray in my hair so I like the loose look.
