Haircut tipping?

I'm sure this has been posted before. Do you tip the hairdresser 20%? What about the shampoo girl?

I'm going to a new place so I want to make sure I have the $$$ I need for tipping :) The old place I went to was much cheaper, so just wondering what you all tip

20% for hair-

$3-5 for shampoo- depending on how ritzy the place is

my new place gives a head massage so ive actually given as much as $8 to the shampoo girl

I guess I'm cheap .. but for my last cut .. I did not tip the girl .. she was rude and abbrasive.

usually about $15 for a haircut and $5 for the shampoo, if i remember, i usually forget about her

The place I go to now has a blowout assistant to the hair stylist So I give $20 to the colorist $20 to the hair stylist $5 to shampoo girl and $5 to blowout assitant. I am just like what am I doing? Only in NY!

My mom was just complaining about this the other day - just another person to tip. But of course she still tips the hairdresser the same amount she would if he didn't have a blowout assistant

I generally tip the hairdresser 15% and give the shampoo girl about $3. when I used to get perms and the shampoo girl did a lot more work, I would give her between $5 and $10. Maybe I am cheap, but sometimes I think the tipping gets out of control.
