Hairdresser that specializes in Black Hair.

Does anyone know of a hairdresser in L.I. that can do black hair that will come to me the morning of the wedding (bright and early ~6:30 am) ??
I am having trouble finding one.

i am not sure yet who is doing my hair. where are you getting married? did you book any of your vendors yet?
yes i wanted to wait till may to get married (june is nice too) but wanted sooner than june.

Hi! I don't think my stylist specializes but she's really good & creative. Her name is Jackie she does her Trials @ Harvey Allen in merrick & then you speak to her privately about your wedding. She's coming to me @ 6:30 am. Good Luck

I was thinking about soft spiral curls in a classy updo, with a few tendrils hanging down.

Jenn: I have so far booked the reception hall -Chateau Briand, the photography - Cassarino in Mineola (they are fabulous) and the Makeup Artist, which you know is JN.

I'm stressing about this hair thing b/c of the timing of the wedding. Or else, I'd just go the the regular salon, but they are not open that early. . .

Besides hair, next on my list is the Florist, and Limo. Plus, I have already found my dress, I will order it by the end of August.

Florist-My best friends (MOH) dad's best friend owns the florist so my flowers are so inexpensive!
DJ-Another friend-he has been a professional DJ doing weddings for 10 yrs-free (my gift)!!

favors-Mikasa
Got my gown
Bought FH & MOH gifts
Bought wedding bubbles

Still need:
Invitations, veil, shoes, book honeymoon (2 weeks in Aruba), placecards, and other little things....

seems like i still have a ton to do! but thank goodness i have 9 1/2 months to do it!

I also booked the Church, I don't think I said that earlier. For honeymoon, we are going to Hawaii for 10 days. We'd like to stay 5 in Maui and 5 in Kauai.
We are looking into packages, I'm waiting on information from Pleasant Holidays.

Florist: I believe I have decided on one in BK. SHe's doing my g-friend's wedding in a few weeks, so after I see her work again, I will book her.

Wild Rose has different packages and I feel their prices aren't bad.

Thats what I did with the florist I am using, I saw the work he did at my MOH's wedding and was totally impressed so I got the best of both worlds.

Lizlen and Jennbaby you guys are making me feel so bad. I have only booked my place and DJ and my wedding is March 15, 2003. Lizlen, I was originally going for May 31, 2003 at the Chateau Briand. What a coincidence. I am also African American. A friend of mine who was married in NJ used Sharon at Salon Bohemia in Brooklyn. Her number is 718 788-8750. If she is not able to do your hair she may be able to recommend someone. You can tell her that Christina told you to call her. She was my stylist before I went natural.

I will call her tomorrow. Maybe she'll come to LI. I am staying the night before the wedding at the Holiday Inn next door to Chateau Briand.

Are you using the Normandie? I wonder. .. when I first booked, it was for 5/03, but then the Church was having a fair that day, so I needed to change the date. I called the banquet mgr. and they said they just had a cancellation for May 31st.
I wonder if that was you. That would be a big coincidence !!!!!

You really should start booking your vendors, especially photography and videography. The good ones book fast. I'm going w/Cassarino. They have done many weddings at CB, and did my girlfriends wedding, and were excellent !!!!!
As for video, I don't know yet, but I'm emailing Wild Rose tomorrow.


OK back to hair.
When did you go natural? I went natural about 6 years ago -- my hair is naturally curly so if I want it straight, I just get it washed, set and blow-dryed and you can't tell the difference. If I want it bone straight, a straightening gel usually works.

Liz..I see you finally joined us..you will love it here. I went to see Gigi yesterday..I am in love with her all over again. She took me into the refirgerator to show me some work that she did for a wedding today, why was everything so beautiful. I have the best florist in the world....only 5 more days for me

I went natural about a year and a half ago. I now have a full head of virgin hair and I am loving it. Right now I am wearing braids that I had done because I was in a friends wedding. I love it. Normally I wear two stand twists in my hair that I also like. For my wedding I may wear braids. It depends on how much length I have by March.

What florist are you using in Brooklyn? I live in Brooklyn and I may want to check them out. How are the prices? I am on a major budget

I love 2 strand twists. Do you get this done in BK? Is it expensive? I was thinking about having some done for the summer.

She won't book this early though. I spoke to her already, we are not meeting until mid-September, so you have time to shop around before you meet with her, but I could tell you now, her prices will be MUCH better than in LI, and her work is great.
That's who 'Shamma' in this thread was talking about when she mentioned her great florist!!!!!!

My stepmom normally does my twists. Sharon that I mentioned in the other post also does them, but I do not know how they look or what she charges. I have seen places that will charge you between $60 and $140 to do the twists. There is a place in Brooklyn called Tendrils and all she does is natural hair, but I have heard that she is pricey. The work is very good!
