Hi Everyone, I am of Haitian decent. I have been talking to my family and asking them if there were any special traditions that Haitian people do at weddings. They have not been able to tell me of any. Are you aware of any?

I'm not Haitian, but I am West Indian. My mom is from Trinidad and my Father is from Grenada. Some west indian traditions that they told me about is to give a piece of black cake to the guests to carry home (or of course you can serve the black cake, but you have to have it). Also, my father told me that after I get married the limo should circle my house once before going on to the reception. He said it's like saying farewell and giving thanks to your parents and all they provided to you. I have a couple of Haitian friends so I'll try to see if they know of any particular to the Haitian culture.

I did already know about the black cake but I have never heard of any Haitian person serving the black cake.
Thanks you for your help and any information you can find is appreciated.

The Black cake is not part of Haitian culture although its popular in much of the Caribbean. I don't really know of many traditions, I couldn't find anything when I was planning my wedding. I would make sure to use a DJ that can play Haitian music-I used Elegancia Entertainment and they were fabulous. Just an FYI, if youre family is anything like mine they will bring gifts to the reception. That's the only tradition that I have noticed at multiple weddings. You need a gift table and make sure someone can bring them home for you.

I'm Haitian and I don't know of any wedding traditions. I did not have any at my wedding. I did tie in some Caribbean traditions though.

My mom makes lambi too. I used to like it, but for some reason now it turns my stomach. Don't know what happened there.

I love lambi. Actually, my uncle makes the best lambi. The only problem is the hall will not really allow to bring some.
