Half after six? or Half past six?

for my reception card, someone her said that it was appropriate to write half after six, not half past six. Is this correct?

After is more formal. It depends what you're going for.

I prefer half past six. It is also the wording I have seen most frequently. I really don't know etiquette wise, what the preferred wording of the two is.

I used 'half past'. I have seen it both ways but opted for past because I was mentioning the afternoon and I thought 'half after three in the afternoon' would have too many afters.

Half after is more formal IMO, but do what you are comfortable with...For the record, no one really notices those things anyway : )
