half up half down hair

half up half down hair

I really want my hair curled and half up half down. I'm a little worried though because I have really straight fine hair that doesn't hold curls very well. And I'm getting my hair done kind of early because we are taking our pics before the ceremony and we live far away from the RH. I'm just so worried that my hair will look awful by the time of the ceremony, let alone how it will look for the rest of the night!
here's my timeline:
12 -1:30 hair
1:30 - 2:30 makeup
2:45-3:30 limo ride to RH
4:00-5:30 pics (outside)
6:00 ceremony (outside)
6:30-7:30 cocktail hour (outside)
I'm thinking that all the time spent outside in the heat will totally kill my curls. Did this happen to any brides out there or am I worrying for nothing? I just don't want to spend a ton of money on my hair just to have it look awful by the time I get to the ceremony!

talk to your hair stylist--and let them know beforehand what your concern i. perhaps they can suggest something (like not washing your hair the nite before so it holds a curl better) or maybe bringing better curlers or curling iron for you, or even changing the time hair is done.

i totally understand your concern. my hair is pin straight and baby fine. Ive decided to do half up half down but i will go for a trial early in the day to see how it holds up. They told me not to worry they will make it hold but im still goint to do another trial just in case.

I thought I had no worries....had my hair curled a million times before the wedding just to see-the day of FORGET IT!!! I really wished that I had gone all up or kept my hair straight. With the humidity and heat the curls took a dive. I spent time outside but not hours on end and it didnt work. MAKE sure that you are HAPPY with your hair and that it wont upset you if they do fall

I have one good suggestion, but I don't know if every hair dresser can do it.

There is a salon on 14th street in manhattan called 'blow.' All they do is blow-outs - no hair cuts. I had a formal event at Cipriani so I went to blow first and said I wanted my hair down with curls. My hair is PIN straight and never holds a curl ever. She did something nobody has ever done to me before - instead of using a curling iron or curlers, she curler my hair by wrapping it around a round brush in a circular pattern sort of. I was highly skeptical as she did it, but it was the only time in my life when my hair held a curl ALL NIGHT! This was in mid September too, so it was pretty hot out. Maybe you could try to find something like that, or even go to Blow if you have a free weekend and then see if just the general concept works for you.

Thanks for all the advice ladies!

I went for a trial a couple weeks ago early in the day. The curls stayed for most of the day into the evening. But she put soooooo much hair spray that my hair looked stiff. I've heard of other hair sprays that are not supposed to leave hair looking so stiff. I wonder if those might work. I'm going for a trial with someone else on Friday. Hopefully she can help me since my wedding is only 2 weeks away!
