Who is using the cake that comes with your hall package and who is going to a seperate baker to get their cake?
What are the pros and cons of each? I saw a cake at my hall last time I was there and was not impressed but I will be doing Viennese so there will be plenty of other desserts so our cake will not be the center of attention

I'm just using my hall's cake that is provided....I can't afford to go to an outside baker!!

Re: hall cake or bakery cake?
Hall cake for me. Deciding factor was the extra cost and time to go with a bakery one.
The cake is really down on my list of wedding priorities though.

Re: hall cake or bakery cake?
My hall includes mine, and I am not worried about the quality because I am having a Viennese hour. If I wasnt having a Vieneese hour, I'd be more concerned about my cake.

my hall includes it- my florist is one of 2 that work w/ my hall so they are familar and will be decorating the cake, so i am happy about that. And we will bring a pic of what we want and I am sure it will be as good as a bakery cake!

my hall throws one in but I didn't particularly care for their designs so I got one from a baker.

Same here. I wanted a very intricate design with sugar flowers so I opted not to use the hall cake and got my cake from an outside baker. I also had the venetian hour, but I was really into my cake!

My hall used a really good bakery so I went with the hall cake- I did get to pick what I wanted though.

Re: hall cake or bakery cake?
when i went to book, we went into the room again and the cake was set up for a wedding.
It was as of yet unadorned (no flowers or anything) and had a basket weave icing pattern which i love but it was droopy and melting
I dont care much about the taste (especially since i wont be able to do a cake tasting anyway :( but i do want it to look nice in the pics

See if they'll work with you. Maybe they can do a fondant. That always looks nice even though I don't care for the taste of the icing. I haven't talked to them about the type we're getting but I just can't afford to pay any extra.

Re: hall cake or bakery cake?
I have the same issue as you. My hall provides one--a plain buttercream or basketweave. IF You want to upgrade it can range anywhere from 300-900. They say if you upgrade you will get more for your money, but I am really concerned about taste, since I am not having a viet hour.
