hall cancellation

so i have to cancel my wedding at the hilton in staten island soemtime this weekend because i booked aruba...but here's the problem
i already gave them 3500 deposit plus if they dont rebook it i am liable for 60% of our contract

i finally got the courage to call the hall and got the ladies answering machine

i'm hoping that they will let me use that money for my bridal shower ( i know i'm not supposed to pay for it but if i can't get the money back then i have to use it somehow) or a welcome back party when we get home form aruba for the people that weren't able to come

do u think they will let me do that?

So i made the dreaded call on friday and i am sooo happy....If i have my bridal shower there I can use my deposit money for that! and i'm not held liable for the contract since it's so far away.....I know that you arent supposed to pay for you're own shower but at least that money isn't going into someone else's pocket ..I am sooo happy !!

I'm having a similar problem weith cancelling- I think the bridal shower was a great idea. How far off was your wedding? Also will the list for the bridal shower be a lot smaller?
