Hall recommendations?

Hall recommendations?

Hi all! I just got engaged and this is my first time on the boards. What a great service this is!

My fiance and I are getting ready to look at halls, and I'm really clueless about where to start. I've been surfing around on the 'net and finding places that look great (like Flowerfield and Beach Club Estate), but *wow,* Flowerfield quoted me a price of about $165 a person!! I nearly fainted.

We're going to have at least 200 guests, so we can't go crazy on the price. Here's what I'm looking for:

Someplace with beautiful grounds (preferably on the water)

$100 or less per person

In Suffolk County

Anybody have suggestions? Or can you tell me where else on the Web I can find Long Island reception halls? Thanks so much!

P.S. to anyone looking for bands-- I used to work for Code Bleu and my fiance is their saxophonist. They're WONDERFUL. True professionals, and so talented. And I'm not just saying that because I'm biased, either. ;) Check them out at www.skylineorchestras.com. They do lots of live showcases.

Hi Violet, Congrats on your engagement!

I am getting married at the Bourne Mansion in Oakdale. It's on the water and we are paying 125 for a Sunday night wedding (the next day is july 4th). They do a brunch reception for 109 a person. Check it out at www.lessings.com.
That website will link you to all of their facilities like Timberpointe, etc. But the girls on here will give you EXCELLENT advice and point you in the right direction. Good Luck!

Thanks so much, Rachel, and congratulations to you, too! :)

Oh-- for any other 'financially challenged' brides to be out there, I did find one place that's reasonably priced: The Miller Place Inn charges $75/plate on Fridays and $85/plate on Saturdays. I will be going to see it soon. I've seen the outside, and it's very pretty, with waterfalls and all. They're at www.millerplaceinn.com.

Congrats & welcome Jenna!

I am getting married at the Beach Club Estate. The grounds there are beautiful and it is right on the water. The price is $65 per person and the food is WONDERFUL! However, I'm not sure if it is big enough for 200 people. You might want to look at their other facility....Windows on the Lake. I'm not to sure of the grounds but the one thing I didn't care for there is that there is a road between the building and the lake.

Welcome!
How about Land's End in Sayville?, The Harbor Club in Huntington?, John Anthony's in Babylon?, or The Riviera in Massapequa? Land's end is a little pricey, but the rest of them are VERY reasonable for Waterfront properties... Good Luck!

Hi Violet! Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the boards.

We are getting married at John Anthonys on the water in Babylon in August!! They are very reasonable and offer so much food and extras!!

I've been to the Miller Place Inn and really loved it. The Riviera we looked at it and loved it as well but there is NO WAY it can fit 200 pp. so I wouldn't even look there if I were you.

Forum Mail me if you want details

Re: Hall recommendations?

Wow, Jodi! I can't believe the Beach Club is so reasonably priced! It's beautiful! But, alas, I read that their capacity is 160. Waaah. Maybe I'll call to double-check anyway. ;)

P&A, thanks for the suggestions! One of the tricky things about this is that since my fiance is in a wedding band, he gave me a whole list of the places he doesn't want to go because he plays at them all the time (he doesn't want to feel like he's going to work when it's our wedding! He put it like this: 'If I've seen the inside of their kitchen and know all the waitstaff's names, I don't want to go there'). John Anthony's is on that list (bummer), and Land's End quoted me $135 a person, I think. But I will definitely look into the others!

Oh- just one more reccomendation...How about The Crescent in Bayville? It is really pretty there as it is literally on the beach! They too are a little pricey sometimes but I have heard them come in the $100pp range.

Chateau La Mer, reasonably priced and on the water.

Re: Hall recommendations?

I am getting married at Captain Bills Bayview House in Bayshore. It is very classy, right on the water, with wonderful views.

On a Friday night I am paying just over 100 per person with tax and gratuity, and that includes valet parking and floral centerpieces.

They are worth a look, ignore the strange name LOL

My God, I love you people already.

I just made appointments to look at the Smithtown Country Club and Windows on the Lake. Will check in later, and will definitely follow up on everyone's suggestions! Thanks so much!

Re: Hall recommendations?

hey there jenna,

i am curious, what are you going to do about the entertaiment, since your FH is already in a wedding band?

btw, i love code bleu. i have seen them 3 times at showcases!

Re: Hall recommendations?

Yeah, the band is going to be tricky! ;) First we'll go look at the other bands in Skyline Orchestras (Skyline, Rhapsody, and Top Shelf). If we don't like any of them, then I have no idea. But, hey, if anyone else goes to see Code Bleu, say 'hi' to the saxophonist (Anthony)! He's the cute one... grin.

Re: Hall recommendations?

Try The Meadow Club in Port Jeff. It is in your price range and I think it can accomodate 200 people.

Re: Hall recommendations?

I don't know the prices but how about Majestic Gardens (not on the water but pretty) and Russos on the Bay???

Re: Hall recommendations?

I second the Meadow Club...they do accommodate 200 people. The food is really goo, and they have nice grounds for the summer

Congratulations and welcome!!!!

If you are looking on the water, you can try Cresent Club, Harbor Club (Huntington), Timberpoint (Brightwaters) other ones we looked at was East Wind- Estate, that is where we booked. PJ Country Club, and the Watermill is of course great!

Watermill!!! They are wonderful!!!

Re: Hall recommendations?

I'm back! We ended up checking out the Smithtown Country Club (which is in really bad shape), Windows on the Lake (which is OK, but just didn't 'do it' for me), and Watermill... which is beautiful. Tuesday we'll go for round two, and I'm taking many of your suggestions!

Swag, do you mind if I ask how much the East Wind Estate charged you per plate? I've heard that one recommended by a bunch of people (like my old boss at Skyline Orchestras). It's kind of far away for me, but I'd still be interested in checking it out.

Take care,
Jenna
