There is a new one opening up right off the bridge The Vanderbilt, it is right on the water..looks amazing

The Excelsior is very nice

Grand Plaza is nice and affordable

Nansen's Park, it is affordable and great quality

Old Bermuda inn is a good choice, heard mix reviews on the food.

The Staaten is nice and sometimes a great value

My friend is getting married in 2006 and she went to check out the vanderbilt (offices located in the grand plaza) and was quoted 130 pp for a friday night, she said it was gorgeous though.

My brother got married at the excelsior grand and it was great. Food was incredible, service was great, only thing is that there is another wedding going on at the same time and your guests and the other guests will be intermingling.

Grand Plaza is where I had my e-party. Its small but beautiful. The food was great and the service too, we went there recently to inquire about a baptisim party for our son and they changed owners and we werent impressed with the new menu, one of my friends is getting married there on 3/5/05 so I'll have more of an informed opinon then.

Nansens lodge, is just that a lodge. My public school used to have its field day there, I guess I'm just being predijuced (sp?). Dont think its the kind of venue for a wedding, maybe a shower.

Old Bermuda Inn....very pretty, food is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!

Staaten is ok, havent been there in years, but from what I remember it was good.

Mandalay, not much from the outside but pretty inside, food is good

The Crystal room, my friend had her e-party there, nice interior, food was very good

Araiana's catering- Though kinda small, the food is great! The owner will work with your friend and throw in a lot of extras. A friend had her hubby's surprise 30th bday party there and the food was just incredible. We have our son's baptisim party coming up there in April and the owner gave us a great price, open bar, mini vienesse hour etc all included. Depending on how many people she intends on inviting, it would be worth checking out.

South Shore Country Club: Not much from the outside but very pretty inside. Went there recently inquring about the baptisim party and was informed about the cosmetic changes they are going through. Very pretty rooms, right on golf course, food is good too and prices werent to bad.

There are also some halls I havent been to:
Island Chateau
Renassiance (owned by the same people who own Excelsior Grand)

The Vanderbilt isn't finished yet, but from what I've seen of it, it's lovely. It's right on the boardwalk, so the beach ops for photos are a great benefit.

I'm not at all a fan of the Excelsior, but it's really a matter of taste. I find it overdone (marble, crystal, etc...) I also don't like that it's right on Hylan Blvd, which is a main thoroughfare. Food is good though and they give a 7 entree choice tableside.

Island Chateau is awful and I wouldn't waste anyone's time.

Old Bermuda Inn is a bit rundown and I've heard some unkind reviews about their food.

The Staaten is so so. There's really nothing special about it.

The Hilton Garden Inn is very nice. I've really never heard anything negative about it, though if you search hard enough, I'm sure you'll find someone who has something negative to say.

The Renaissance is also right on Hylan Blvd, so if location is a consideration, cross this one off the list.

South Shore Country Club is wonderful; however, it recently changed proprietors, so I don't know how the quality is since the change. The grounds are lovely and the place is far more elgant than the other places I mentioned.

Have your friend ask friends/family if anyone is a member at the Richmond County Country Club (she should have her fiance do the same). If they can get someone who is a member to sponsor them, the place is phenomenal! It's gorgeous, the food is outrageous, and the price is incredible. Unfortunately, it will only be available to them if they know someone who's a member & willing to sponsor them.

Much luck!

The Le Greci staaten is as unique as the bride's taste. You can dress it up or down. We almost booked there. the food was good from what we can remember from a 2 years back. We had a great time at the wedding.

My bridal shower was at the Staaten, as was my sister's, and the food was very good. I have not been there for a wedding though.

South Shore Country Club is very nice, but I haven't been there since I was about 13!!

The Hilton Garden is supposed to be lovely, from what I've heard.

Amazingly, I lived on Staten island for 25 years and I have never been to a wedding there!
