Hamlet Golf and CC

Went to a wedding there on saturday, here is my official review. Location-nice, the scenery was pretty and the place itself looked very nice. Cocktail hour-i honestly wasn't impressed. It was outside, and there was no where near enough seating, and it seemed very crowded. They do have a lot of seafood but the line for the 1 pasta station was kind of long. I couldn't find a fork so i ate my turkey with a knife. Reception-the room was nice, but not a fan of the t-shaped rooms. Service was good, but make sure the band/dj coordinates with the staff when bringing out the dinner. When the band stopped playing and announced dinner, there was a lull of about 10 minutes before anyone got anything. Food-good. The appetizer thing was pasta and plain marinara sauce, which i thought was a little plain. I had the meat (don't remember the name of it-beef tenderloin or something). It was really good. Dessert was good as well. Overall, it was a very good experience. Call me silly, but one of my favorites are these really thick, fancy paper towels in the bathroom. The band was called hot pursuit or the turbo crew or some name like that, they were very good. Any ? let me know.

Re: Hamlet Golf and CC

Hi Matt. Were you at the one in Happauge? I am getting married there next year. But that room is L-shaped, so your T-shaped comment threw me off! If it was in Happauge, was the wall closed during the cocktail hour and then opened up after the cocktail hour? If it was, what was your opinion of that? Thanks.

Becky

Re: Hamlet Golf and CC

I hope it wasn't in Hauppauge. :( Doesn't sound like a great review.

Becky - I'm getting married there in October. I need to call Denise and schedule my rehearsal dinner. I'll let you know what we decide about the wall.

Matt, let us know which Hamlet it was!!

Re: Hamlet Golf and CC

I took my sister and my stepmom to the Hamlet Wind Watch to discuss the whole wall thing. Both agreed it will draw guests away from dancing and the main party. If you have a low-key wedding where people are not huge dancers and you want a more relaxed conversation type reception then opening the wall is perfect! But I want people dancing, not sitting at empty cocktail tables near the 2nd bar. Also, remember you need to get flowers and candles to decorate the empty banquet tables. I am SOOO glad that other people are questioning their set-up. Denise made me feel like I am the ONLY one. I am going to have her put some of the large trees in front of the wall doors on the main room side so that it doesn't look so 'high-school gym door' like.

Please let me know what everyone is deciding and your suggestions.

Re: Hamlet Golf and CC

Michele, I keep going back and forth! On the one hand I don't want people to ignore the dance floor, but I have some heavy drinking non dancers coming (FH's pals!) and I might want them away from the families and near the second bar I wish we could crash a wedding to see how it looks throughout the evening. I have only seen it with the wall open so I feel like I like it that way, becuase that is what I am used to seeing when I walk in there.

Re: Hamlet Golf and CC

This whole 'wall' thing is driving me nuts! One day I want it closed, the next I want it open and only for the reason of the 2nd bar and the fact that the wall looks like a gym wall!

I guess when I go for my tasting I can ask her to open/close it so we can see how it will work. Do they walk the guests through the lobby, or does the wall open and they all walk through?

I think I'd rather it be closed so it appears that we have two separate rooms....but I like the idea of having the second bar.

Also, decorating all those tables isn't going to be cheap...and does the florist have to wait around to decorate, or is Denise in charge of putting the 'after cocktail hour' flowers out?

I'd really like your thoughts on the whole thing...it's getting close and I've yet to make a decision!

Michele, does she have trees for you to use, or do you need to buy those too??

Re: Hamlet Golf and CC

Matt,

Thank you so much for your review! I am getting married at the Commack Hamlet in September 2003, and to be honest, I'm scared to death! I wanted a place that not everyone has been to before, but now it's like I don't know anyone to give me opinions/reviews. Any reassurance would be appreciated. Can I be completely candid for a minute, Do you think the place was worth $140 a person? I'm getting so nervous. It's an awful lot of money not to be totally thrilled with your location.

Thanks again,
Lea
