I don't really understand the difference between a hand blender and a hand mixer. I read a few articles that say hand blenders are more delicate and are used to puree soups. So if I don't plan on ever making soup, is there a need for one?

Re: Hand blender??
i found an article on the differences between the 2
I use my stick blender all the time, from gravy to guacamole (to soup).
I just got a hand mixer the other day because it was $4 at wal-mart, and I've been using that for cookies... I don't have a mixer... no one ever got us our kitchen aid mixer boo hoo.

A hand mixer has beater attachments, like a Kitchen Aid does. For cake mix, cookie dough, etc.
A hand bender has a blade. (A sharp one, be careful! I know of what I speak.) I use mine daily for a yogurt shake with frozen strawberries. Besides that and soup, I also use it to blend diced tomatoes into puree. And mine came with a 'mini-prep' cup and blade that you can use like a tiny food processor to chop onions and herb and stuff.
