What does it mean to hand cancel invitations? I see posts about it but have no clue what that means... Thanks!

You walk your invites into the post office and ask that they be hand stamped so they don't run them through the machine and get ruined or bent!!

It won't guarantee safe delivery, though. I sent one to myself this week and it arrived open and torn.

Re: Hand cancel invitations. What does that mean?
I highly suggest that everyone 'hand cancel' their invites or you might have happen what happened to me. I waited on the line @ the post office, gave the invites to the lady, and she promised theat she would 'hand cancel' them by the end of the day. I said that I wanted to watch her do it and my FH (at the time) said he didn't want to wait. Long story short, 3 days later they started coming back to my house w/ 'return to sender' across the front of them. The very expensive invites that I had paid for fell apart in the machine that the lady @ that post office promised me she would 'hand cancel in the first place. This happened in Kings Park. Make them do it. We spend so much in postage for invitations to get ruined?
Good Luck All!

when i went to do this, i actually was able to spend about 10 minutes doing them myself. i went when it wasn't busy and the lady at the desk gave me the stamp and a box to put them in. they still go through another machine but they arrive looking a bit neater than if you don't do it. but don't worry...if you don't do this, your guests will not think you are a horrible bride! it is just another thing we brides do to make ourselves absolutely mad!

I stood there and hand-canceled mine, only for them to put the darned things through the machine anyway. Hand canceling is no guarantee.
